ALWAYS have some wrapped around my poles...sliced tight boots and wrapped up the soles to give a fellow suffering camino some relief from his too tight boots.
I wore my Merino 1/4 zip on three caminos, the EPW, plus other trails/trips. It was perfect. I do not baby it at all.....handwash occasionally and on the line to dry. Period. Perfect.
No, don't remember seeing the vans. Never felt that I couldn't get something to eat.....even just a plate of pimientos de padron! It's good to remember, though, that markets close mid-day in many places. I'm sure you are going to enjoy the Primitivo and will do fine with food. Buen Camino!
First of all, I strongly recommend that you reserve your first two albergues (because I loved them both)! BTW, there is a restaurant in Oviedo that has vegan fare, I'll see if I can find out the name.
Albergue de peregrinos de San Juan de Villapañada - great hospitaladero (kitchen)
Albergue de...
I walked the Camino Primitivo (which I enthusiastically recommend you consider at some point - beautiful) and I was able to maintain my vegan diet most of the time. If one is more dedicated, perhaps, I'm sure it is possible to do it 100% of the time. I think you would have to do the...
Spain has the BEST coffee. Every tiny bar or restaurant, even in the middle of nowhere, has a fabulous coffee maker. I would suggest NOT bringing coffee from the states, especially anything in plastic....and enjoy the delicious cafe con leche! You are in Spain!
I totally abstain from alcohol.....has never been an issue. I prefer aqua con gas (sparkling water) and Aquarius! Yes, whether you drink wino or water, you will pay for a Pilgrim's menu. Buen Camino!
I used the Osprey Aura (?) 65 L, but I removed the top detachable pouch, my daughter used the 50 L Aura. SO comfortable.....I did not feel compelled to fill it up, so it was light and a joy to carry. I also do some winter backpacking in NH, so I did not want to buy 2 different backpacks...
I did not run into bedbugs on any of my caminos. I did the Primitivo last year, no problems for me or any other pilgrims I walked with or met. I would definitely make sure, though, that you DO stay at David's in Bodenaya....NOT to be missed! Buen camino!
I'm considering doing the Slovenian Mountain Trail which I know is not probably a pilgrimage by definition, but for me, walking day after day is always a spiritual journey. I do not prefer to do it alone. I'm planning on walking in July.....anyone interested in possibly joining me?
Not a pilgrimage route by definition, but does anyone have info on the Slovenian Mountain Trail? I did the EPW two summers ago and passed through Slovenia.....lovely. I'm considering doing a longer walk through Slovenia and could use some practical information, thanks!
Check out the almonds torte recipe at Epicurious. com. I think it is a perfect recipe, easy too. Better than the pre-packaged cakes you get in the tourist shops, really delicious! Buen provecho
So sorry to hear that you will have to take a hiatus. I had such a lovely experience at your beautiful albergue. Wishing you peace wherever your journey takes you.
My daughter will be joining me in Santiago so I would like to take her out to Finisterra. I've stayed in the Pension Finistellae before, which was very nice, but it is fully booked. Any suggestions of a nice pension. I'm not sure my daughter will be up to staying in the albergues......
