Not a pilgrimage route by definition, but does anyone have info on the Slovenian Mountain Trail? I did the EPW two summers ago and passed through Slovenia.....lovely. I'm considering doing a longer walk through Slovenia and could use some practical information, thanks!
you probably mean what we refer to as 'enka', meaning 'one', as the route is waymarked with the official waymarks (red circle with a white middle) plus a red 1. it's official name is 'slovenska planinska pot' (SPP, slovenian mountain trail) or 'slovenska planinska transferzala'. it is definitely not a pilgrimate route, but a mountain route. it passes through all the big slovenian alps and some sections are challenging (think scrambling, exposure, iron cables or pegs, steep slopes with rolling stones etc.). I've only walked small parts of it, so can't advise on the most difficult sections.
this is its page in slovenian and polish (!!):
http://www.pespoti.si/spp.php. it is arranged in 1h30 to 3h 'stages' - the first is here:
http://www.pespoti.si/spp-trasa.php?id=1 then press the big arrow in the right top corner.
we have excellent mountain maps which I think you would need to carry with you, as waymarking with 1 can sometimes be confusing or deteriorated or missing.
I am looking for a list of hostels along the trails in slovenia . Plan on a one or two month walk this year . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think there are enough mountain huts on the entire route to stay in every night. if you are a member of a mountaneering organization with the reciprocate agreement, you usually get a 30-50% discount on accommodation.
the attached pdf file of accommodation along SPP I did sometims last year as part of a possible walking plan.
PZS I - III is grading of the mountain huts (PZS I are those in the high mountains without road access)
triangular sign = means a stamp (we have stamps on almost all summits which you can collect in a special SPP booklet and get a sort of a certificate if you send it to PZS - slovenian mountaneering organization)
tuš = shower
bb = bunkbeds in dorms
b = bunkbeds or beds in rooms
z = mattresses in winter rooms (small shelters/rooms open in winter, often with a key)
d/t/q/c = double room / triple room / quadruple room / room with five beds
€17/8 = normal price / price with a mountaneering card
I - XII = months (but double chech opening times before leaving as they vary from year to year)
phones with 031, 041, 070 are cells, 02, 04 etc. are stationary
if you are looking for a pilgrimage trail, we have three to choose from! a map of all three is attached.
this is the site of the local organization:
