    All albergues in Negreira closed

Seeing as I'm currently replying from the Albergue San Jose in Negreira, I can confidently assert that not ALL albergues are closed.

    Hospitales vs Pola De Allende

I just walked Hospitales the other day and it was phenomenal. I started late in the day (early afternoon) since I was camping and didn't have to worry about getting off the mountain by sundown. The walk was spectacular. There was no one around for miles since all the other pilgrims had started...

    Favorite albergues on the Primitivo?

Dang. Clearly I should've made this thread sooner. I've already long passed a bunch of the recommended spots! 🙃

    Favorite albergues on the Primitivo?

I can't find a recent thread on the subject, and considering everything I figure we could use a new one. I just spent the night at Fontenonaya and it was an absolutely wonderful Albergue experience. A privado, it's simple but super cozy and warm both figuratively and literally. Nicolas the...

This ONE SIMPLE TRICK ensures that you can, indeed, camp the Camino del Norte

We lucked out with this one. The rest of the house was sketchy, but the floor above the entry hall was solid and we cleared the room of all debris. It was dusty as hell but did the job

LIVE from the Camino Where is everyone right now? October 2021

Pulled into Santillana del Mar, where we'll be staying for the night. Ultimate goal is Primitivo and then FisMuxia. Curious where all the other active walkers are currently hanging out.

    Skippable Stages?

Thanks. And yeah, we have time to make it currently, but who knows what could happen. I have a tricky knee that could cause me issues down the road. As much as I appreciate everyone's "You can do it!" spirit, I just wanna know what bits are skippable should it come to it. Attaboys are great, but...

    Skippable Stages?

Primitivo, but we're also planning on taking a couple Zero Days here and there, hence feeling we may need to skip a stretch here or there to make it up.

This ONE SIMPLE TRICK ensures that you can, indeed, camp the Camino del Norte

Just a quick note to my fellow tent-livers as this was something I was super curious about prior to starting my trip. First off, YES - you can absolutely camp pretty much every stage of the Camino del Norte. BUT - I can only speak to my own experience. For example, I don't know if this "trick"...

    Skippable Stages?

Currently on Norte and it's starting to look like we may need to yellow blaze a few stages in order to make it to Muxia by our end date of Oct 30. If we had to bus or train past a stage or two, which would be the best ones to skip? Would it be better to skip one or two stages entirely, or just...

LIVE from the Camino Norte vs Frances - Yikes!

Heading to Irún later today. Did you spend the night? The municipál is closed for covid and we need to find a place to crash.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD What are the odds of another lockdown?

Spain's highest court recently ruled the past lockdown "unconstitutional." And though the ruling doesn't guarantee that another lockdown won't happen, I wonder if it's at least less likely now. I wonder this because I bought myself a ticket to Madrid back in April (long before Delta started...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Folks that were on the Camino when lockdown hit: what happened next?

Good luckin' out on that bus ride! Sounds like you got out just under the wire!

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Folks that were on the Camino when lockdown hit: what happened next?

Holy cow, what an ordeal! Thank god your son managed to get you a decent fare out of there. Those prices were insane! Do you have your next go lined up?

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Folks that were on the Camino when lockdown hit: what happened next?

Oof, yeah. The profiteering off the last-minute flights out must've been ridiculous. Glad to hear you made it out, though! I just assumed everyone would get the chance to go home. I didn't realize it was a crap shoot!

    Camping the Camino del Norte

Resurrecting this thread to see if Trailhawk pushed through with the trip and how it went. I'm gonna be hiking it in September and am planning on wild camping as much as I'm able. Currently also debating whether to take the hammock or the tent, so I'm especially interested in hearing about it.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Folks that were on the Camino when lockdown hit: what happened next?

Where were you when Spain locked down? Did you stay on the trail or return home? How difficult were things? I'd love to hear your experiences.

Non-train means of getting from Bayonne to SJPP (alt: anyone wanna split a taxi on 19 Oct?)

Yeah that's pretty much my thinking. It was a pricey lesson to learn but all things considered there are a lot worse mistakes to make. I just consider it the "Idiot Tax" and try to learn from it.

Non-train means of getting from Bayonne to SJPP (alt: anyone wanna split a taxi on 19 Oct?)

It wasn't about the time (4.5 hours, actually), it was about the fact that I was afraid I wouldn't get into SJPP in time to make it to Hunto and would lose an entire day because of how the train schedule lined up. Losing two hours is fine. Losing an entire day wasn't. If I had known at the time...
