    The CELL PHONE Pilgrims!

When I go out to a restaurant for a meal, I want to enjoy a conversation with my wife. People talking on cell phones next to me often get into loud conversations with either business or kids. Very distracting and inconsiderate. When I'm dining out and get a call on my cell, I take it...

    Umbrellas

Hello. I'm interested in how this works. I can see using an umbrella in the open areas where there's no trees, but when the trail narrows how do you keep it from hitting branches and other pilgrims? Often the rains come with high gusts of winds. How do you keep your umbrella under control...

    The CELL PHONE Pilgrims!

I find people that are in restaurants and bars using cell phones very annoying and they're all over the world. You cannot do anything about it.

    Tacky or Cool?

It's good it does not contain any wool or cotton. If it's tight fitting all around then it's worth taking it for a test walk. Go for at least 20 km and see how they feel. If you have no sour red spots or burning feeling in your feet, buy a second pair and enjoy your camino.

Spain, now the healthiest country in the world.

I remember walking on the CF and following a group of elderly woman that had just gotten off a bus. They were carrying their heavy bags of groceries up the steep hill to home. They pushed to the top like there was no hill there. I never seen anything like that in Canada.

    What is a pilgrim?

It’s very simple: A pilgrim places them self before the judgement of God.

The camino is boring landscapes, paved roads, traffic…

I've seen a number of groups of people that have split apart on the Camino, due to some of them being persuaded to go. Best to let people decide on their own. The Camino is not for everybody.

    Raincoat or poncho?

Couple of things to consider. If you buy a poncho, it will be put away along side your sleeping bag when you're back home. If you have a waterproof jacket, you have something you can wear often. Ponchos can be a bit of a problem getting on.

Suggestion to Ivar and the dangers of giving medical advice

Problem is that there’s many people that over rate their current state of fitness. There’s 100’s of cases in which people that have never run since high school, have been sidelined with a heart attack within the first 1km of a marathon. First snowfall of the season sees thousands of men...

“Bed race” You should read this before attempting Camino Del Norte in July/August.

I'm from Canada and like a lot of other people traveling great lengths to get to Spain, we've paid the price in airfare. Those that put the money, time a effort into the Camino deserve an enjoyable walk. Those that simply book a tour and jump on a bus should not interfere with those that...

“Bed race” You should read this before attempting Camino Del Norte in July/August.

Hello Laurie. You're correct there are a few Camino routes that are not busy. I did the CN this summer and found the last 100km packed with bused tourists. My friends that did the CP also reported a problem with finding hostels. Each Camino path is not the same, they each have their good...

Suggestion to Ivar and the dangers of giving medical advice

I’ve seen a number of people post replies advising people to not bother with getting into good physical shape to do the Camino. Not knowing what a person’s current health and fitness makes that sort of advice nearly criminal.

While doing the CN this year, I walked into a bar in Ribadeo for lunch. There behind the bar was a stack of blank pilgrim credentials with a 5 euro price tag on it. The root of the problem on the Caminos is lack of control by the Spanish government and Santiago. The Spanish government is keep...

    What is a Pilgrim/What is a Pilgrimage?

In ancient times the pilgrimage was used as a form of punishment for minor crimes. During those times tens of thousands of pilgrims were sent off and more than half of them would die. They were killed by all sorts of things, robbers, wolfs, drowning and exhaustion. Being forced on a...

Pilgrim who forgot to switch his phone off.

I agree. I think the CF is just packed with too many tourists. People more concerned about staying connected and sharing their experiences. They have different goals in mind and they often conflict with the goals of pilgrims.

    2019 Brierley Guide Grumble

I found the Brierley guide to be inaccurate, poor map detail and too much fluff. I suggest reading the Brierley guide at home and highlight any interesting items in the much more detailed Michelin guide.

Some folks just really don't get it ....

I’ve led a number of adventures for groups of people. Some experienced and some not. I’ve learnt that there usually is one person with a grand idea that’s going to lead the rest. Many of the rest will just allow that one person to lead and have every bodies interests taken care of. This will...
