How far can I walk in 13 days?

Yes, I want to start in St Jean for the challenge as well as replicating my son's journey. Actually, I would prefer to start in Paris at the little chapel near Notre Dame but no time for that. Has anyone ever walked from Paris? I guess that's a question for another thread.

How far can I walk in 13 days?

No he's not - hes' done with the Camino although they've made a pact to do it again when they're in their 40s. I'll be by myself unless I can persuade someone from home to come with me but that looks unlikely. Anyway I'm sure I'll meet many people on the road so I'm not overly concerned.

How far can I walk in 13 days?

Yes that's me! And yes, he is worried already as I will be going it alone and he was there when they were all searching for Denise. He's not happy so I have to bring him on board.

How far can I walk in 13 days?

Yes, this is exactly the type of training I was going to do. I live in the country so can take long walks without losing momentum as you would in the city, waiting for traffic lights and dodging pedestrians etc. I did some hiking on the Amalfi Coast in Italy earlier this year and that was a good...

How far can I walk in 13 days?

I haven't booked my air yet but will try and get an open jaw ticket - I want to fly into Paris and take the train to SJPDP as it allows me a night in Paris to sleep off the jet lag and I just love Paris. I'll try and leave via Madrid as this seems to be a good way to do things. I so appreciate...

How far can I walk in 13 days?

Yes it will be Emirates - I always fly with them - didn't realise it could be more convenient to leave via Madrid - will check this out - thanks Saint Mike

How far can I walk in 13 days?

Thanks - this is so helpful. I'm erring on the conservative side so will aim for Estella and if I can get as far as Logrono then that will be a bonus. My son walked the Camino Frances earlier this year and I received tons of support from this forum and tons of encouragement to do it myself so...

How far can I walk in 13 days?

I have a two week vacation coming up in April and would like to start my Camino (at last). I will end it at some stage later in 2016 or 2017 but due to work I can't do the whole thing at once. I am travelling from Australia so need two days inbound and two days outbound travel to get home. I...

Thanks again to everyone who said hello to my son and his friends

:):)I am planning my own Camino so yes already infected vicariously through my son and everyone on this forum whose posts I read. I will have to do it in chunks as I can't take 6-10 weeks off but am thinking next September or April of 2017. Thanks for your kind words.

Thanks again to everyone who said hello to my son and his friends

Long time ago (back in April) I wrote asking for help and advice. I was worried about my 19 year old son and his friends as they were walking from St. Jean to Santiago de Compostela and they had only left high school last year. Thanks to all of your help and support, not only did they do their...

The story of your Stone at the Cruz de Ferro

My son took a stone picked up from the beach outside our house. My mum (his nanna) painted it for him. It says 'Burra 2015 and is painted bright blue. He placed it on top of the Cruz de Ferro when he was there a few weeks ago. The stone is about three generations of us (my son, me and his...

Training for September 2015 - Plantar Fasciitis

I've had it really badly - it lasted for a year. What helped me was all of the information above, especially the icy bottle, but also massaging the tendon with my thumbs to loosen it, and pulling my toes toward me at the same time. I also lost about 15kg (33 pounds) in weight and found that...

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

You are all so positive and encouraging. I thank everyone! I still have a child in high school so have obligations and can't take off for weeks at a time, but at least it gives me lots of planning time and time to stick to these forums and watch and learn. Thank you all! :)

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Hi Saint Mike - if only I could. I have no LSL accrued and work on a contract basis but I do dream of the Camino Frances - and I would definitely start in Saint Jean - I don't want to miss those Pyrenees.

    Hiking boots / walking shoes

My son has just finished his Camino and wore Asics trainers/running shoes. He said they were fine but he is 19 and has no physical issues. He did say the one thing he is glad he spent money on was very good hiking socks. In the six weeks he walked, he only got one blister.

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Thanks everyone for your lovely thoughts. He has received his Compostela. When he sent me photos of his pilgrim passport covered in stamps and his certificate, I was in tears of joy - as you who have done this know - it is the validation of your weeks and weeks of persistence and overcoming so...

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Tom the presentation idea is really good and I can imagine his high school would be very receptive. He attended a Catholic school and so did one of his friends he walked with so the faith part of the journey was important to them. I will definitely listen to him talk about it and in fact I may...

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Bernard - hahahaha! The long term plans are many and varied for all five of them but for now its rest and some down time in the Algarve. I have heard it can take a long time for peregrinos to come to terms with what they have achieved, and reflect on the experience. I expect it will be the same...

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Stephen - oh yes! My work as a teacher means I get long breaks...but living in Australia means our long breaks coincide with the Camino being at its most challenging i.e. December/January. I will do it one day - but have relished living it vicariously through my son and his friends.

I am the 'worried mum from Australia' - and my son has just finished the Camino today!

Jack and his four friends arrived in Santiago de Compostela today! They went to the Pilgrim Mass and saw the botafumerio swing, had their photo taken outside and are now going to take some time to process, reflect and rest. To all of you on your Camino - six week ago I wrote to this forum all...
