If You have Walked the Camino - Do you prefer boots or trail runners?

Chaco sandals...used boots for about 100km and ended up with blisters and tired feet. Switched over to my chacos and did 700km on my first camino. My second was Porto to Santiago and I only had my chacos. Doing Norte next year...may start out with a trail runner, however, I’ll probably use...

What's going on? Camino del Norte hard?

I’m seriously thinking of doing the Norte next June/July and from the profile it does look bumpy, definitely not the Portugués coastal route, and I can see how one might compare to Francés, however the parts that seem to be more like the Francés is a few days away from start in Irún. By then, I...

Four more days until SdC - and no motivation anymore to continue ...

My son and I started at SJPP. By the time we arrived in Sarria, I was happy, healthy and felt like I could walk another 400 km. But something change for me there, a kind of melancholy that I could only apply to the ending of my Camino coming. I walked slower and shed tears that I hadn’t...

Chaco sandals pros and cons? (plantar fasciitis dramas)

I don’t have plantar fasciitis, however, I’m a Chaco’s fan...they are a heavier sandal for sure. I used mine for over 700km on the Francés...they do have some arch support as I cannot do without something. Also, I toss them in the washing machine when they start smelling. They’re also on the...

How long do your shoes last?

I’m from Oregon and used timberland hiking boots for the first 100km and developed blisters due to overheating...from there I used my Chaco hiking sandals for over 700km and I am still using these same sandals 2 years later. Holding up quite well. Breaking in a new pair of Chaco’s to wear this...

    How big is your pack?

I used a 48L Osprey Kestrel for Camino Frances, SJPP to SdC. I never went of 14# even with water and it fit my frame of 5'2", 140# just fine. I loved having the extra room to fish things out and repack. I'll be using it again on my next Camino in Portugal... Kathie

A cheaper, faster and easier way to do the Portuguese

Omg...this is "different" for sure. I'm kinda thinking you are in the wrong forum maybe? My son and I walked with packs from SJPP to Santiago and when we took a bus to Finisterre and saw fellow pilgrims walking on the side of the road, we knew we had done wrong...we also knew we would be back...

Gloves, to take or not to take...

I'm doing my Camino starting in May from St Jean. I've been fortunate living in the NW United States to practice all types of weather with my intended gear...I have pretty much all of it together except gloves. The ones I have are either too thick or too thin, and not waterproof. Is this...

Hiking poles in cabin baggage Dublin

I'd like to take my poles, (PLAN A) Hoping to take all my camino items in backpack as carry-on...I have purchased a clear shipping tube that I plan to check with my poles, metal spork and a swiss army knife. Has anyone done this before and did the tube arrive on the same flight/time as you...
