    Winter camino

I walked in February and March this year. It was the best time of the year to go. It was cold, wet and many days the sun never came out but I enjoyed it. I walked from ST Jean to Santiago and then on to Muxia and Fisterra. Go in winter. I have been in both summer and winter! Winter is quieter...

    Walking now - feb 2017

Absolutely, I have done so much planning and still have had surprises. No website or mobile app is 100% correct. So many of the planned albergues have been closed but luckily my backups have worked. Some days work as planned, others are improvised but good, proper planning always works best!

Hi all In OCebreiro tonight. What a glorious day for walking. Sunday was blessed with sunshine and a challenging walk up the mountain. But the hamlet is so beautiful in the daylight. Cold tonight but wonderful.

    Walking now - feb 2017

I did good planning but other than that generally there are places open in most bigger towns. Don't follow the guides as they are not always practical. I've been on a summer Camino but this is very special. But the Camino provides.

A pilgrim was attacked by a robber

Hi All, I'm from South Africa and things get very scary here from time to time. When I walked the Way in 2014 I felt very safe. We are always alert in South Africa because of crime. Be alert, it's my only piece of advice. The Camino is a wonderful place where you can connect with God, your...

    Camino Frances Feb 2017

Hi, I'm set to start on 1 February. I hope I find some fellow pilgrims, my last was in July 2014. There was no shortage of pilgrims then. I am nervous but excited, especially because I'm from South Africa and snow and cold are not common here.

    Pilgrim's Masses

I was blessed to attend a pilgrim mass in Ponferada. It helps that the beautiful chapel is on the same grounds as the albergue (donativo). I would encourage a pilgrim to attend mass even if you don't understand everything, you can feel something special at the masses.
