    Church at Hontanos

Thankyou Helen - puzzle solved. I am giving a talk for Probus on my trip and just wanted to be positive I had the names right. Wish I had picked up the brochure. I think I was travelling light and mean!!!

    Church at Hontanos

All I can say is - you lot are brilliant and thank you so so much. I sat in the church and meditated. It was beautiful. One of those rare moments on the camino. Beautiful space for contemplation. I neglected to get the literature on these remarkable sentient beings. Now I am giving a talk at...

    Church at Hontanos

One needs to go inside. It was very moving.

    Church at Hontanos

Can anyone tell me the names of the 16 (left to right) 'saints' 'remarkable beings' on the church wall at Hontanos. Excuse my ignorance but I can only name 4 with certainty.

    Mailing excess luggage

Ivar - you have answered my Question that I have just posted elsewhere on this forum. Perhaps you could suggest the best way to pack some gear that I want to have available post Camino. I am intending to post from SJPDP to your luggage storage facility late Sept with pick up mid Nov. I had...

    Ladies...Yoga leggings or hiking pants?

Personally I like hiking pants for all the reason you quoted in your first paragraph. I like to have pockets. I also like that small air gap around your legs. I think it keeps you warmer. But as someone else has said - it is personal preference.

    Gear Post Camino

When I finish the Camino Frances I will be flying to Paris to spend six days there. I do not want to waste time buying suitable clothes in either Santiago nor Paris so have decided to pack a day pack or similar with clothes I will need to conventionally sight see. My question is: Would I better...

    Non albergue stays

Thank you for mentioning the difference between a hostal and an albergue. I still hadn't grasped that. Cheers

    Non albergue stays

OK - will do. I suspect I will need to do that when I am on the road so to speak. One never knows where one will be or how one is going to rock up along the way.

    Non albergue stays

Thanks for that. I will enquire at the private albergues. Not travelling until Sept/Oct but thought I would start looking at places not to miss n the way.

    Non albergue stays

I am on a budget (read - good value / cheap ) but will be requiring stopovers at Pamplona, Burgos, Leon, Santiago (and who knows where else) of more than one night which means an albergue is out. So: Do I move from one albergue to another - NOT IDEAL - or how do I investigate good value options...

    other shoes?

Been offline for a while so pleased to see this question posted as I too was wondering. I have read the replies. My situation is that I have achilles tendonitis which I am managing well but I cannot afford at the end of the day to wear lightweight sandals without support and crocs are for me the...

The good, the bad & the ugly

Enjoyed your post. Thank you. Did you travel in November and if so how were the temperatures. Did you need a sleeping bag.

    Thanks Mark - I get your drift. :) :) :)

    Sleeping bag advice

Thanks for the info. Appreciated. I am on a budget in that I have already bought a new pack as my usual pack I use for bushwalking/tramping is too heavy and my other sleeping bag is too bulky. I feel I am duplicating gear I already have for this Camino but I do realise that I have to travel...

OK - you have answered my nagging questions to myself and I feel more confident now that a bag is definitely the way to go. Thanks

    Sleeping bag advice

Hi - I notice that you have walked the Camino in Oct and Nov. I will be walking the majority of the Camino in Oct into November and I am still trying to decide on a sleeping bag to take. I know its a question of just how cool the nights are and how warm the arburgues are/not. Some say no need to...

    Washing Clothes

I like this advice. Will one bar/cake of soap be enough for 30 days - I looked at the web site and Dr Brunner soap is sold here in Australia in 5oz/140g size AND is it truly good as a soap for hair, body and clothes. Thanks

    Washing Clothes

This makes a lot of sense and I will certainly apply it to my socks particularly
