LIVE from the Camino Current conditions on the Frances

The volunteers at the busy pilgrim's office in SJPDP are primarily concerned with the welfare of the pilgrims. As has been pointed out in some recent threads, you can and should do your bit by checking the forecast all by yourself and making sure that if you are walking, you have appropriate...

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

Indeed, that poor family got the rough end of it too..

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

We have been stereotyped by a particular country for 800 years.. Get over it.

Snow in Navarra, currently, or at least a few hours ago...

A wise friend reminded me very recently: Don't believe everything you read in the papers'.. Would I listen, am I a fool? I hope not.. yesterday morning I had a good belly full of breakfast, checked the forecast, donned my magic cape and stuck to the quiet N334 rather than lose my way in a...

    Alert Theft at Roncesvalles

This sounds like the work of professionals, likely more than one person. Be vigilant.

Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Jaca (not quite live from the camino )

I hope you won't mind me hijacking your thread, but just for balance: I walked this section from Oloron-Saint-Marie to Sarrance in perfect clear weather yesterday, through the picturesque villages of Eysus, Lurbe- Saint-Christau and Escot, and found it really pleasant, with only moderate...

LIVE from the Camino Do not climb over this fence

If this is directed at me, speak for yourself.. you mentioned farmers and landowners before I did.🙄

LIVE from the Camino Do not climb over this fence

Landowners and farmers are for the most part, simply fed up with day trippers thrashing their lands: leaving gates open, lighting fires, leaving rubbish and broken bottles, shitting up the place etc. Some are reasonable and try to make concessions, some are less so. But all quite understandable...

Grabbing lunch while walking Tui to Santiago

I think you'll be ok.. They have shops selling food in Spain, and you can sit down anywhere you like to eat it. No need to plan or overthink it.

Painful corns on foot - any advice?

Is postponing an option? If every step is already painful right now, in your chosen walking shoes.. then the prospect of walking 800km is not great, to be honest. If you're hell bent on going next week, then you really should try get an emergency appointment ASAP, to see if it can be managed. IMHO.

    News from the Camino

There is and they are, but you're on a hiding to nothing going against the conservative values of those in power, don't waste your energy. If your ego can handle it, hang back and don't take any of it personally or too seriously.

    Trip report

Thanks for the very honest post, I can relate to much of what you've written. And well done for pushing yourself through and on your accomplishments. Many of us spend our lives procrastinating and regretting. Now onwards and upwards.. ultreia y suseia

Three rescues on the Route Napoleon yesterday

Right now, I'm in the beautiful fortified town of Lescar, looking across at the snow caps of the Pyrenees towards that other pass.. the Col du Somport, where I'm headed. It looks pretty as a picture.. and menacing in equal measure. Not somewhere I'd want to be stuck.

    Shoes camino primitivo

You'll need a good pair of primitivos for the job.. No really, any decent hiking shoes/trail runners will do just fine and nothing will wear out in 2 weeks/300km. The Primitivo, like all of the other caminos in Spain, has an assortment of walking surfaces: gravel paths, earth tracks, muddy...

LIVE from the Camino Do not climb over this fence

I think a little bit of uncertainty and trepidation can be a good thing, honing our senses, keeping us aware and in the moment! Too much reliance on apps can do quite the opposite, insulating us from our environment. Even the uncertainty of where we will sleep can be liberating in it's own...
