Am I mad to walk the Primitivo alone in March? ( 1 week to go – a moment of panic )

Hi All - A follow up I returned home to Ireland last night. Totally delighted to have completed the Primitivo. The weather was awful: both mud, rain, snow and chilly days. The views and spirit on this route are stunning. It was a physical challenge to complete the continuous ups and downs. The...

    Live from Primitivo

The snow is melting right now, but still hanging on at the highest points above 1100m. Looks like it could be ok for you next week if it doesn’t snow again. Maybe you’ll need to be very cautious about the hospitales route though. Huge amounts of snow there so I can only imagine it could be a...

    Live from Primitivo

Hi! That patch was between grado and Tineo... which has been mentioned in this thread. If only I read it in time. There is mud at the lowlands in general but is passable. BUT Today the mud coming out of grandes de Salime was atrocious. I recommend staying on the road until it starts...

    Live from Primitivo

I can confirm the mud. If you have good hiking boots and spare socks it’s ok. A few people are walking with just trainers en route! But they are surviving. Miraculousa.

It’s day two here and the weather so far is holding up much better than the dire rain predictions. Fingers crossed! Yesterday quite hot; sunburnt left arm. About 7 of us moving through the route now. Mostly English speaking luckily. With about 3 more again spotted at a different pace. My body...

Hi Everyone, I arrive to Oviedo in a week's time, March 26th. After reading a few more threads, I'm starting to get a little concerned .... that the hostels may not be open at this time ... the weather will be awful ... there won't be anyone around.... I am also very excited at the same time...

    Starting from Oviedo - March 27th, 2018

Hi everyone, I'm starting the Camino Primitivo by myself on March 27th, 2018... flying from Dublin so will get a stamp in St. James's Gate on the way. Does that make it the Camino Irlandes? It's 15 years since I did the Portuguese route with a friend; a 9kg bag in August heat compensated for...
