LIVE from the Camino A Sketcher's Camino Madrid

Yes MarkyD & Stephan The Painter, I too had shin splints in ‘18. Agree w MarkyD, and add my observations: I walked as I trained, long, fast steps. So I reduced step length but keep same cadence. Probably was carrying too much too. Combination of both. I wanted to walk to Finisterre and...

Need a new route (March 2023)

Hiya, I was planning Madrid-Salvador-Primitivo, and from Lugo (Lugo must see) take the Camino Verde, across to the Norte, via Friol, to avoid the Melide-Arzua-SdC section which I’ve done before. Going to Italy now, so hopefully do that lot next year. Buen Camino, whichever you do… Cheers, Phil

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

Oh dear. I think he did have hurdles, paperwork etc, but overall was very satisfied. That was in Italy, and MCard is all-over, but they would require correct paper-work of course...

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

Sorry, reposting due poor proof-reading: Hi Rita, I did too for my Camino in 2018, with no claims 🙏 I cross checked all conditions extensively and found them all covering pretty much the same items very closely. F.i.l. had 2 lengthy hospital stays and extensive stomach surgery both times...

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

Hi Rita, I did to for my Camino in 2018, with no claims 🙏 I cross checked Al conditions extensively and found them all covering pretty much the same items very closely. F.i.l. had 2 lengthy hospital stays and extensive stomach surgery both times; almost didn’t make it at all. MC covered the...

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

Thanks Travelling Man. My f.i.l certainly took advantage, it would have been a huge bill, for two lengthy hospitals stays etc. Cheers

    Hospital Bill from Spanish Hospital

Hi, my father in law is pretty tight and relies solely on the insurance attached to his credit card, which did cover extensive hospitalisation and medical care in Italy. Has anyone relied on and used this form of insurance successfully, or otherwise in Spain please? Buen Camino

Accomodation St. Jean Pied de Port

In Aug 2018, I stayed at Gure Lana, short walk past the Citadel. Wonderful hosts, lovely room. I’d be happy to stay there again. Buen Camino😁

    My new anti blister strategy

My feet would overheat with that much sock. I wore well-fitted Merrel’s (Moab 2) and even found the merino socks a bit warm and wore thinner socks for more room again when my feet weee hot and swelled. * I did re-adjust me feet in the shoes and re-tied my laces before any descent, so there was...

    European Sim Card for iPhone

I bought a coda phone SIM card in Barcelona and headed off to SJPDP in 2018. It showed no life til I crossed the border back into Spain, then worked perfectly (til I forgot to top it up🙄) Buen Camino

    Casa Ivar Welcome pilgrims!

Thank-you😁 I arrived on 13/9/18 with many emotions. I spent 3 fabulous days in SdC catching up with many wonderful people I’d met along the way. The “home” feeling is strong since being back in Oz. When I see any pic or video of the Camino and particularly the SdC Cathedral I feel as I said...

Rucksack straps - tight or loose?

Hi, as I understand it, and works best for me, they’re designed to have your hips support the weight, not your shoulders. So, tighten the waste straps so that the pack sits on, and is supported by the hips. But not too much that you squash your stomach. Then tighten the shoulder steps to be...

Poll Do you listen to anything while walking?

No. If I listened to music or podcasts I would miss too much of where I was. There was always too much to see, too many people to say hello to, too much to experience that I might not see again. Any simple thing that caught my attention, it didn’t matter what, I wanted to see and feel it. I...
