Due to unexpected delays (having way too much fun in Lisboa) I'm starting the camino tomorrow. See some of you on the trail! As for accom: I must recommend Porto Alive hostel. 10eur inc. Breakfast and actually on the camino too. Also brand new kitchen and with very friendly english speaking...
The above link to the english list of auberges was flagged by my browser (chrome) and my antivirus software as containing malware/a virus... what's up with that?
Flight is booked. This Canadian will be landing in Lisboa on the 17th and heading up to Porto shortly after. Anyone else thinking of walking around this time?
Merino wool is expensive as noted above, and not necessary really. Any moisture wicking, quick dry athletic fabric will keep you comfortable and also dries easily
I'm following your blog. It's engaging and does not sound like Paulo Coelho and his new-age mysticism (that's a good thing).
Hope your leg heals up. I pulled my achilles tendon by slipping in some mud. Took a lot of very strong spanish ibuprofen after that.
I started off carrying 2.5 litres each day in June/July. I quickly found that to be excessive and pared it down to about 1.5. A Swedish man I met along the way maintained that carrying more than 1 litre was pointless.
If it's heavier garb you are hoping to find, you'll probably find plenty in the lost and found boxes. There were all kinds of sweaters and jackets in the boxes I looked through. Presumably people ditch them when they realize how hot it is during July.
