How many pilgrims walk the whole way, with their packs, and does it really matter?

If only for the fact that their backs are sore

How many pilgrims walk the whole way, with their packs, and does it really matter?

I say, carry your bag or don't, but if not, show some respect for those that do.

    very cool. thank you both.

    Sleeping and so

Merino wool is expensive as noted above, and not necessary really. Any moisture wicking, quick dry athletic fabric will keep you comfortable and also dries easily

    curfews at portugese hostels/auberges?

Do the hostels along the portugese way tend to have the same 11pm or so curfew as the ones along the frances route?

How much on average will I need to spend on the Camino?

If you're strapped for cash, (even if you're not, in my opinion) don't eat pilgrim menus! They're generally not large or especially high in quality.

VdlP from Mérida, in my third day.

I'm following your blog. It's engaging and does not sound like Paulo Coelho and his new-age mysticism (that's a good thing). Hope your leg heals up. I pulled my achilles tendon by slipping in some mud. Took a lot of very strong spanish ibuprofen after that.

    Water everywhere?!

I started off carrying 2.5 litres each day in June/July. I quickly found that to be excessive and pared it down to about 1.5. A Swedish man I met along the way maintained that carrying more than 1 litre was pointless.

    Heat and Humidity June-July

It was only humid in Galicia when I walked in 2010. But it was very hot during other parts. I was walking in June/July as well.

    thrift shops along the way

If it's heavier garb you are hoping to find, you'll probably find plenty in the lost and found boxes. There were all kinds of sweaters and jackets in the boxes I looked through. Presumably people ditch them when they realize how hot it is during July.
