If you take the Norther route you are walking next to a busy major road most of the day after you past the edges of Leon. If you can deal with the extra 6K or so the Southern route is indeed a nicer walk. That said I have not walked the section back to San Martín del Camino but those country...
That is correct, the beauty of an eSim is that you can keep your sim installed and when you are on wifi you will still get texts and can make calls with your normal number. When you get one of their sims (not esim) you will have to replace your sim.
I have been using eSims for international travel (including my last Camino) and they are super easy and affordable. Buy it before your departure, turn it on when you are in country and you are good to go. I like being able to have data in the airport when I land. Message me if you have questions.
Yes, I saw that too and tried to make a reservation but it failed. I email the reserva@sanjuandeortega.com address from the contact page and it was returned as undeliverable which prompted my hasty post.
Good news, I got in touch with Manuel via WhatsApp.
Anyone else having issues can email...
I went to book some rooms via their website and it failed so I looked at google maps and it says temporarily closed. When I sent an email to the address listed on the website it came back with sender unknown.

I also used the Spainsh Post Office Correros, drop the bag off at an office (we did Madrid) and pick it up in SDC near the Cathedral

I am planning a trip with a number of my parents friends and they are concerned about needing transport along the Camino. When I did the Camino last I would take a picture in an albergue or along the way of a taxi sign/number just in case but I was wondering if their was something all in one...
That is correct, it is only a data sim. I only needed data as I wanted to use my regular service for calls/messages while on wifi. I used whatsapp for almost all other communications so your mileage my vary but for me this has worked extremely well.
If your phone will take an eSim try airalo.com . I have used them with great success in South American and Europe (Spain earlier this year). Feel free to message me if you have questions.... I also have a discount code if you are interested.

Four Lions is awesome. Really enjoyed the beer and food. Randomly started a conversation with the master Brewer and he took us on a tour of their setup in the old catacombs under the building. Heading back in 2020 and will for sure be stopping in there.
