    Poles or No Poles?

Okay, I'll chime in. I don't really use poles on a camino. The main reason is that I don't check my luggage. I have Gossamer Gear LT5 carbon trekking poles, which I use in the mountainous terrain where I live (Montana). They are extremely lightweight as is all my gear (pack weight is about 3...

    A stupid washing thing..

REI carries them. I use one for body soap & shampoo bar and another for laundry bar.

    Accommodation on Le Puy route

I had a very nice stay at Gîte Lo Fenador in Nasbinals last year. No meal served, but there's a kitchen, and they provide a very nice reception with appetizers and a local liquor. There's also a small chapel downstairs. Easy to find a meal in town.

    It's been done before... cutlery/bowl/cup?

I just ordered Fozzils Snapfold Bowlz and might take one on the Camino del Norte this season. For my first two caminos (Portuguese & Frances), I didn't bring anything for food as it was so easy to get food on the road. For the Chemin (Le Puy to SJPP) last season, I brought a small 16-oz round...

    Communal dinners

I recommend the Happy Cow app. It finds restaurants with vegetarian/vegan offerings all over the world. I’ve used it in Portugal, Spain, and France in my iPhone. It’s free.

    Photo contest for CP calendar

    Submitted these two, from 2019.

Stick stashers - a clever way to temporarily stow your hiking poles

I use and recommend these minimalist bungee attachments: https://www.gossamergear.com/collections/accessories/products/lightrek-pack-bungee-attachment . They effectively attach sticks, umbrella, fishing rods, etc. to your pack.

    Sleeping bag.

Patagonia Lightweight Sleeping Bag at 335 g. This is what I use for caminos. It's discontinued, but you can still find it online. It is plenty roomy. I carry both a silk liner (Rab) and this bag, depending on the route.

October CF bottoms for women - suggestions appreciated!

Try Patagonia capilene. There is a midweight, thermal weight, and "air" (combo capilene & wool, for cold). I use the midweight under a wool skirt unless it's really cold out (freezing).

Multipurpose shoes for shower and town?

Be careful hanging them from your pack. My Croc sandals shrunk this way! (I also had some regular Crocs at home and kept them outside by my backdoor. Those also shrunk.) I am not sure if it's the heat or the sunlight that does this, but it's a thing. I suspect the heat. I am bringing...

    (Even) wider brimmed walking hat

Gossamer Gear has a lightweight sun hat on sale for less than $10. I have it, and I'm going to bring it on the camino this spring. Last time, I used a ball cap and fried my ears. I tried the Gossamer hat under my raincoat and it compresses such that I will have a nice bill in front when it...

To poncho or not to poncho?

You might consider a rain jacket and skirt, which is what I use. Both are quick to get off and on and are extremely light weight. My jacket is Montbell Versalite (have previously used OR Helium) and my skirt is 3F UL Gear (other options are out there). I have found ponchos to be cumbersome...

Do You Need Sleeping Bag in April?

I like the Patagonia Lightweight Sleeping Bag. Took it on the CF. Perfect for indoors. Weighs less than a pound and folds up into a tiny stuff sack. (I also brought a silk liner from RAB. My backpack was about 7.5 lb without water.)

    Santiago presents for little granddaughters

Mine were confiscated by TSA when trying to re-enter the US with them (I did not have checked luggage). You can find them on Amazon for cheaper than what I bought them for in Santiago (here: https://tinyurl.com/27jp46nw). I got my nieces little shell bracelets, which they love. Each cost 8...

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

I like the Kula cloth because they get me completely dry, they are two-sided so my hand never gets wet, they are infused with silver so they don't smell, you can use it more than once a day, they wash easily and dry quickly, two corners snap together so that the used part is on the inside of...

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

Women: Get a Kula cloth. Game changer for pee. Readily available, online, REI, etc. I used it for the Camino, hiking, backpacking, etc.
