    Camino by Coach

Something like this?? Seems like the Camino is heading that way.

    Camino by Coach

It could be fairly said that the 80th anniversary D Day landings ceremony yesterday was a pilgrimage for the remaining survivors who went there. How time is strange .. 80 years back to D Day and only 80 years back from then to the American civil war! Do Americans visit, pilgrimage, to those war...

Re the term pilgrim .. this black and white clip was filmed at an old American (Texans I think) refugio near Los Arcos .. long closed now.

    Camino by Coach

Ah, there the confusion, all is changed since I received mine - so, hang on! I could just have taken a train to Santiago to get my Compostela? Then why did they look at my credential and ask why I did the Camino? Confused. 🤣 🤣 The new one still has "with Christian sentiment (pietatis causa)"...

    Camino by Coach

I did say that I might be wrong but, I used this as the translation from online, AI. " When you arrive in Santiago de Compostela after walking the Camino de Santiago, you go directly to the Pilgrim’s Office to request your Compostela, which is the certificate that has been awarded to pilgrims...

Oh, please don't mistake me, I would have felt the same as you.

    Camino by Coach

Personally I find the coacherino concept rather horrid .. (the deceitful type .. claiming sellos and so on). but, the Compostela seems to say "to all the faithful and pilgrims from all the lands of the Earth who, for devotion or by taking a vow, have come to the Church of the Apostle Santiago"...

    Camino fatigue?

Ah, I do like honest posts ... we never seem to mention it but, isn't doing more than one Camino an odd thing to do? That first one, for whatever reason we did it, just cannot be replicated .. it lives in our memories .. we have it .. so why go on another? Why do we do that? I go because I have...

    Snake identification

Did it say anything about eating fruit off a tree?

    Alternatives to walking if injured

There is a secondhand bike shop in Burgos - La Estacion de Bicicletas (the bike station), Calle Rey Don Pedro, 56 - they do up old bikes too - they might have something? There is the Viking bike shop - VikingsBurgos, sales and repairs, has a nice address! C. Santiago Apóstol, 18. Bike shops...

    Alternatives to walking if injured

My first Camino from Moissac in France, back in 2005, my old knee gave out at Logrono and I bought the cheapest clunker of a bike that Decathlon had .. had a back rack put on it, bungeed my pack to that and carried on - was extraordinary how I could cycle but not walk. Some sections of Camino...

    Alternatives to walking if injured

Well that is pretty sad - sorry to hear that. I had to come home early last month as my old knee trauma flared badly again - can't do it any more so that was my last walking Camino (will return to do first aid with my car in future). All depends on how mobile you are really - rest usually means...

    Few questions - advice

Good questions. 1. I always carry a spork .. how to eat a tub of yoghurt or ice cream or tin of beans without a spoon? Plus my Swiss army knife - if you buy 'carry with you' food that needs cutting you need a knife. (mine has a corkscrew too). 2. I always carry a few clothes pegs as they seem to...

    25 km per day?

True - here's a test - stand straight and relaxed with arms down the sides (no pack). Become aware of the front of the legs all the way down to the feet. Now bend forward at the waist - the waist only - and you can feel all the muscles and tendons and ligaments tightening up and going into...

    Lost and found

Last week I lost a new t shirt on the Meseta. Was wearing it under my shirt, became too hot so took it off, dropped it on my trailer whilst I put my shirt back on, forgot to pack it. Realised about 300 metres further on, after two pilgrims on bikes going the other way passed me. They stopped...

Camino Francés favorites not in albergues?

Burgos, Casa Pancho - Calle San Lorenzo, 13, 15, not far from the Cathedral in small side street. Founded 1958, authentic local cuisine at good prices and here's the thing - the locals eat there! Very friendly and helpful - lovely wines too. https://barpancho.com/bar-restaurante/

    25 km per day?

I do so agree Walkalong - my Ebay CaminoStore tagline is - "On Camino every day is a journey, and it is the journey itself that is home" which is taken from a poem by Matsuo Basho, the 17th C Japanese Zen poet - is this why we return to Camino? Wanderers? "The moon and sun are eternal...

    25 km per day?

If the full Frances is 790kms and the suggested days are 33 then the average is surely 23.93939393939394kms per day? 🤣
  19. David

    25 km per day?

If you think about it the answer is simple - the guide books offer so many days to get to Santiago from St Jean, usually 33 days - so the daily kms have to fit into that so there the basic structure of the book. Unfortunately, regardless of health and fitness pilgrims many keep to those day...
