    English speaking pilgrims

If you are able learn some very basic words or phrases. Use Google translate as needed if that fails you.

One Day or Two? Walking the Camino from St Jean to Roncesvalles at 72

The walk from St. Jean to Roncesvalles can be done in a day. Plenty of pilgrims have done just that. If you are pressed for time or money, you many have no choice. However, if you have the time and money a stop at Orisson is quite refreshing. The downhilll walk off the mountain can be...

A leisurely start from St Jean Pied de Port

Belari is a good location. Directly across the street from the Pilgrim Office. Individual beds. The room I stayed in with 2 other gals had 3 beds with adequate space between each. If you don't leave early and you leisurely shop before leaving SJPdP, don't plan on getting to Orisson by noon...

    Alto del Perdon

Yes. I recall coming down steps that seemed to have a rise of 12 to 14 inches, at least. Was very cautious in that area.

    Accommodation in Paris

Stayed at Hotel Celtic (or maybe Celtic Hotel) in 2018 and will be there again in June 2020. Short walk from there to/from Montparnasse train station, which will get you to SJPdP. Best wishes.

Accomodations in Saint Jean pied de Port

Beilari is a good option. Across the street from the Pilgrims' Office. Book now if interested. Fills up fast.

    Short first Day? CF

Unless you are really pressed for time and/or money, I think making a stop at Orisson is the smart choice. Lots of folks cross the mountain in one day, so it can be done, but coming down the natural path is dangerous. Coming down the paved road is safer, but longer. The sooner you make a...

Senior Newbies planning first Camino- advice?

How for is the SJPdP place from the Pilgrim's Office? Can you stay there for more than one night? Was planning on staying at Beilari for two nights but would like to try your place if it's close the the PO. Thank you. Will look for Akerretta. Thank you for that.

Is anyone doing the Camino without any specific purpose

You might find the terrain to be a challenge. You really cannot train for it. Watch where you are going or go where you are watching. If you come down the natural path into Roncesvalles, be mindful of your footing. Easy to get hurt in that area. Paved road is safer but longer. As to your...

    Astorga recommendations?

Was extremely ill when I arrived at Hostel Coruña. They took me to clinic for emergency treatment. Fabulous staff. Comfy clean room.

    Need to abandon walk!

Is mailing home not an option?

    Forgotten Towel, Villamayor

Stayed in VIllamayor last night. Left behind a blue towel. My name is written all over it. McBrayer. I am in Logroño this evening. In the hostel by the cathedral. If someone should catch up to me and have it with them I would be most grateful. I am a very slow walker. I am old and tired...

Is there currently a long stretch without refreshment or water?

Can't help you out with a location as I don't start walking until next week. Just want to say, gosh, what a super-sweet, nice gesture on your part.

    My advice

Soap and nylon net bag dry fast. The product can be secured from both ends, so there is no "knocking around." It works well on my pack and is convenient. I've found it's the best way to carry soap.

    My advice

If you need a holder for your soap, check out theshowerbuddy.com. Soap holder, back scratcher, and exfoliator all in one. Hang it from your pack for easy access whenever hand washing is needed along The Way. Super quick drying and absolute minimal weight.

First Albergue experience ever - What is the norm?

I think I found my shoes (wide foot problems)

Altra Lone Peak 3 or 3.5 have a wide toe box. I have both. Though I have not yet noticed it, some folks think the 3 is just a bit wider than the 3.5. Maybe try one or both?

Which Camino Guide Book Do You Recommend?

Camino de Santiago by Dintaman and Landis is great. Village to village maps over a 35 day walk. Camino de Santiago by Brierley is also good with a 33 day walk. I purchased Brierley's book first then learned of the other. I'll likely take the Dintaman and Landis book.

    Planning Advanced Albergue Reservations

I am also traveling the CF in September. I've already made reservations for Beilari in SJPdP. Their facility is across the street from the Pilgrims' Office. Use their website for making a reservation. I have also already booked a reservation in Orisson as I was told you need to do that 3...
