Express Bourricot (http://www.expressbourricot.com/luggage-transport/) have a service to send a bag from SJPdP to Santiago and store it for your arrival

Staying in touch while on the Camino

I posted to a blog on blogspot.com for the wider group, including workmates etc., but my wife kept the closer group of friends/family updated via FB. I think the FB group got a better description/photos/etc., but the wider group did enjoy seeing the blog....

    Rest days...

We are also in the no rest days (except in Santiago, before heading on to Finesterre), but did a number of short days. Mainly into and/or out of Pamplona, Logrono, Burgos & Leon and when we were feeling less enthusiastic. This gave us time to look around and be tourists without getting too...

    Judging Fitness Level

And NOTHING will prepare you for steep downhill walking like walking down steep hills. I saw more people in trouble walking down steep hills than up. In actual fact there are lots of exercises you can do for strengthening the knees to handle downhill sections (I found lots of walking did the...

First time walker: what to bring

Instead of a 2nd pair of shoes, consider sandals for the end of the day to air feet. If they are good walking sandals, you may even use those on the trail some days.

    Backpack storage?

Didn't you mean... Go to dinner, drink copious amounts of vino tinto, followed by an Orujo (or 2), return to albergue, brush your teeth, take off pants. Sleep. :)

    Intro and question about mass...

Just walking into the churches may bring experiences you didn't think of... We walked into Iglesia de Santa María La Mayor, in Belorado, and a priest was in the confessional. There were 3 Italian pilgrims (one blind), already in the church. When he noticed the blind pilgrim, he came out and...

    Camino Frances Fall Scheduling

And it doesn't always get cold towards the end of October... The 3 days we walked from Santiago to Fistera (29, 30 & 31 October 2016) were 26C (79F)! But the weather varies significantly between years (2016 appears to have been very dry and mild until late, compared to many other years). SJPdP...

From Paris to St. Jean Pied de Port?

I would expect too early. We booked first class tickets for 39 euro when the specials came out 90 days before (we travelled 21 September 2016). I'm sure that the standard fare was below 30 euros at the time. But they don't last for long. As Gerard said, 'Put a mark on your calendar.' :) Buen Camino

Cash withdrawing machines (ATM) on the camino.

Yes, the 'Old Town' does have some ATMs, but they are difficult to find. There are a number of banks with ATMs on Rua da Sena on the edge of the 'old town' (heading towards the railway station). Including Santander, that I personally found the easiest to use, were fairly common and they had no...

    Camino Frances in April 2017

A little late, but..... The train from Paris goes to Bayonne, where you can catch the train to SJPdP (no need for a taxi). The Airport is in Biarritz, so if you fly, you will need to get back to Bayonne by either taxi or train. There is also Express Burricott (http://www.expressbourricot.com/)...

News (2016) regarding Santa María de Eunate

    Note: Closed on Mondays.....

    Are we ready?

Never trust long range forecasts . It looks to be quite nice in SJPdP for the next few days. We are currently in Paris and travel to SJPdP tomorrow, and go directly to Roncesvalles on Thursday. Just a day behind you. We may meet along the way. Buen Camino TrevorB

    Are we ready?

Absolutely miserable. But the long range forecast for SJPdP & Roncevalles on the 22nd doesn't look so nice either. But, the weather will be what the weather will be, so we will take advice from the Pilgrims office and enjoy what we have :) Buen Camino

    Are we ready?

We are a few days ahead of you! We leave Melbourne Friday and expect to start walking from St Jean on 22nd. We are in no hurry, so we may well meet up :) Buen Camino

    Best Guide Book

You are probably better off asking in the Le Puy discussion https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/forums/the-le-puy-route.50/ The later part of your trip, is well covered here....

Wanting a warm beach at end of Camino early July

Hi Jenn, our youngest daughter did a 4 week 'Work & Stay' stint in Baionna (next door to Vigo) last year. This was after a long trip, where she needed a break from the 'travelling/partying' etc. :) She said it was an extremely beautiful area, and really loved her time there. If we get time...

    2016 September/October Peregrinos Departures

Thanks. That's what I thought too, after reading a number of posts on the forum suggesting that SJPdP was a lovely town, with a lot to see. Also, we'll be training down from Paris via Bayonne, and arriving fairly late in SJPdP. I'm sure that we could organise all we need (credentials, transport...

    2016 September/October Peregrinos Departures

Well, I have now booked our flights and accommodation in Paris pre-Camino, and we'll now be arriving SJPdP 21 September for a 22 September departure Or maybe we'll take our time and depart 23rd... I guess we'll see when we get there :)

    2016 September/October Peregrinos Departures

Thanks I've been lurking for a while, time to show my face :) We have friends who have completed Frances, Le Puy to SJPdP and are just finishing Portuguese. So lot's of good information, but the forum offers many more perspectives. PS. 2 Aussies (Fiona & Trevor) + 2 Kiwis (Rachael & Ginnie)
