Lol.... Only in name!
I love my gators.... Good in rain/ long grass.. Keep stones out your boots.
As for ponchos.... Look for a cycling poncho... Cycling is big in London and there are so many to choose from. They tend to be more fitted and shorter.
At SJPdP they will give you a few sheets of paper with basic info and you get a credential. May I very humbly suggest you take this and a large dose of trust and faith. Follow the arrows and be free of guidebooks. Read this and other forums make the odd note in a journal and keep a diary.then...

all three of the downs mentioned by the OP are well worth a moment's caution. check laces ,packs etc.The one into Molinesca(acebo) was the worst for me...until i got to Sarria. On leaving town there is a steep short concrete downhill...only 200 meteres long. That was where my knee chose to give...
astorga then bus is a good option if they have already seen the cruz de ferroz. That walk down into Molinesca was hard...but the hotel by the river was a night of luxury i will never forget.I still get tingles when i think about the 10 of us chatting with our feet dangling in the tiny stream...
e)the camino is open to all;you will find stats on this forum that show that most nations are represented on the camino although the majority come from continental Europe. In the summer the average age of walkers is lower because of the college/school vacations.Whilst a couple of phrases of...
d)the summer months are hot;start your day early(6am).Have a coffee and maybe find a pastry, walk a bit then have a second breakfast(possibly a boccadilo..sandwich).A light lunch followed by getting into an albergue.Do whatever washing you need to do...then the afternoon is your own.Explore,do...
c) the camino will provide; This is a tough one...you need to trust in your self, others and the camino itself. There are banks and ATM all along the route but take out enough cash to do you in case either are closed for a couple of days.Generally credit cards will be of limited use when buying 5...
b)In the summer months think twice about footwear. Most of the trail drains well even after rain.A pair of trail runners will suffice...Gortex is fine if you already have it unnecessary.Remember a kilo on your feet equates to 5 kilo in your pack...so think light.Your feet will swell so start the...
a)The temp in Northern Spain between June and Sept will vary from warm to searchingly hot(40c).High tech walking gear will not stop you sweating but it will dry much quicker each night when you wash it.
It will at some stage rain...Galicia is a green and moist area of Spain.During the summer a...

On...

I liked the comment about the staying at albergues as a multi layered memory...reminds me of the Duth albergue. If memory serves it is in Villamajor. We arrived to find that cyclists were filling the place...lucky to get a couple of the last beds.Other walkers turned away...including my Canadian...
