yea, that is no fun in good weather and absolutely no fun in the rain. at least it's mostly on solid rock and not on rolling stones.
perhaps they should install some iron pegs or something (we have that on such stretches in slovenia, or cable or even a ladder.)
how long would you say the descent is, by ear? 100m? 200m? would it be possible to avoid part of it by zig-zaging a bit down the slope on one's own? (I would really hate to miss the goodies after the descent.)
I think this may possibly refer to tourists starting at the bottom of the gorge and following the gorge upsteram as far as the walkways go. then turning around.
from the photos and videos I've seen, the last part of the descent from the road into the gorge is indeed a very steep and fairly...
I included this variant in my olvidado guide from 2018. look towards the end of the text where there are two variants, one directly to ponferrada and one via santo tomas de las ollas.
unfortunately I walked the main road in 2012 because I didn't know this lovely path existed.
I walked past santo tomas de las ollas on my olvidado from bembibre (after making a wrong turn and ending in this town) all on the road because I didn't know there is senda de los canteros along the gorge. this little romanesque church is definitely worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.
it...
then I zoomed in and there is a local path, Senda de los Exploradores, which you can divert to after molinaseca (but I like this monferrada). it leads to the bridge on LE-142 across river boeza. from there you can follow red dots (paths) via san tomas de las ollas directly to where CF leaves...
I think what op is trying to ask or is looking for is an alternative from molinaseca that does not go via ponferrada and avoids lots of road walking of the cf. it is possible to reach olvidado from the bridge on LE-142 crossing river boeza, going perhaps via san tomas de las ollas. this would...
mid-september may be a little late for the mountain alternatives of the olvidado if the weather becomes typically autumny (rainy and possibly snowy at those heights?) as you would be there towards the end of the month. on the other hand, it may be glorious.
the same probably goes for may, so...
you're welcome!
I plan my days according to available accommodation, budget if possible. they also reflect if something unexpected comes up - like the stay in zamartze monastery and the climb to beriain (puerto de lizarraga).
it took me 17 days, including a rest day in miranda de ebro. (but if...
list of more budget oriented accommodation on camino viejo (pamplona - salvatierra-agurain - miranda de ebro - GR99 - villaneuva de la nia - aguilar de campoo where it joins camino olvidado for which see ender's lists). this was last updated in 2016 so please ask around and phone ahead!
I can attach the accommodation list here sometime next week.
blog is unfortunately not online anymore. I am working on a new blog but it will take some time before it's online again. I will post the link here on the forum when it's done. (this year, hopefully!)
the app already?! my goodness, ender is a star!
I think I teorised somewhere on this forum about the names for these caminos. olvidado is then settled. I still vote for the camino from pamplona to aguilar de campoo to be named viejo, as much in light of the roman road(s) and its(their) use...
