I too have been weighing and researching this very question. Having visited many of the places on both routes in 1996* on our honeymoon (by car) there are parts of both worth seeing again and none I really would avoid. Now, walking this is very different of course.
Coastal is likely to cost more...
Despite fitting all the requirements recently in UK we were told it is not in wide use there and we would not find any. Even with a British MD in the family.
Other parts of Europe may be different but I would doubt it is easy to find. Pfizer recently reported very slow sales in EU which...
Sadly I will likely be there around 10AM but expect (hope?) to find similar arrangements in Vila Cha - Villa d' Conde stretch later that day. Can not wait to see, smell and then devour a plate of freshly grilled, fresh sardines.
Besides the nearly ubiquitous "Frango" places (Frango is the BBQ Chix) we saw all over Portugal (not walking though) there were many open air and permanent markets in towns and cities that always had several places to buy wonderful Jamon and Cheese along with fresh bread. Chorizo there is unlike...
Yes David I have looked into the $20 taxi to or from Barcelos and the coast. I am leaning towards cutting over towards Rates (from Litoral) and once in Barcelos (where I expect to take a bit of a rest for a day or two and see the market again) I may just hire a car to take me out to see what is...
I am hoping to see Ofir again, a town we loved 30 years ago. From there I may take a bus back to Barcelos. I see the cut over you spoke of. It looks a bit further south then I hoped for. I suppose being fluid and open to what comes will dictate much of my decision making along the way as well...
Thanks Jill,
I saw that one but had thought I read another about crossing further south (maybe by bus?) to add casa Fernanda to their Camino. After studying maps and local transport web sites (until my eyes wore out) it seems public transport may be in order. Either for cutting over further...
I am trying to revive older threads rather than clutter with new threads about similar queries.
The more I read and learn I seem to be leaning towards the Coastal from Porto with a "cut over" somewhere (marked and known) in order to reach Barcelos. I have been to much of that area before on...
I will presume the CP will be similar to the CF route? Thanks for the reply. My pilgrimage is more of personal and spiritual in my own way journey. I realize many (most?) pilgrims (walkers) may have a more "religious" desire for the pilgrimage. That is why I wondered if Easter was a particularly...
I am planning my first attempt at a Camino walk for next Spring (2019). I have wanted to do this for a very long time and am finally going to try.
In looking at my chosen dates and a calendar I notice my date of arrival in Santiago is quite close to Easter. I plan to leave first week of April...
