Yeah, the overcooked pasta with a can of tomato sauce thrown on top can get pretty tiresome. I felt malnourished by the time I finished walking the first time. On the second trek, I used the lists that have been posted of vegetarian friendly places.
Think you're missing out not walking in France... After all, if I remember correctly, one girl with which you clicked was French, right? The Le Puy route is amazing and not to be missed. Just a thought...
Dude... Sorry you still haven't found "her". I am just happy to know you're still alive!!! Haven't seen any posts from you for ages! I wrongly assumed it was because you had found someone and had moved on. When's your next trek? Maybe it'll be the magical one.
My best find, Amanecer in Villarmentero de Campos. Not too impressive lodgings from the street, but the best vegetarian meal I had in Spain. The food just kept on coming - I compared it to Thanksgiving dinner in my blog.
I think a problem many people encounter is that they romanticize what the camino is going to be like beforehand. After all, it's "just walking". Once out there, the realization that it's really hard hits them in the face and I've seen many quit. There's a lot of pain from your head to your toes...
I got a barbed wire tattoo on my right bicep on my last camino. Well, at least that's what I call my scar from slipping into the cow pasture fencing just before Zubiri. :(
In my mind, estoy + gerund = in the process of. I equate it to the French "en train de". Am I mistaken?
We were (gently) corrected in Spain when we referred to the language as Spanish. Oops!
The most fascinating thing for me was to hear Spaniards switch to English when my non English speaking...
I, also, am not a techie... but I just purchased an inexpensive Beista phablet off of Amazon. So far, I'm very happy with it, (although it was a little too sensitive to the touch at first, it seems to have settled down). It's 10" - I could have probably gone a size smaller, but I've scanned my...
As a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I really struggled on the Frances. By the time I reached Santiago, I felt malnourished. IMHO, the best route for a vegetarian is the Le Puy route in France, where I ate like a queen. That said, I am giving the Frances another shot this May. In preparation, I took an...
I wouldn't count on that. It wasn't so long ago that we had to get visas for France... late 80's or early 90's. If I remember correctly, it was in retaliation for our requiring visas for French citizens. It was only temporary, but I got stopped at the Swiss border two days before it ended.
And... this would be why I walk the Chemin/Camino as often as possible! This is the scenic part of my daily walk...
You gotta love this sign warning hefty fines for littering...
Seeing your beautiful photos makes me so envious!!! What a blessing!!!
He was there Sunday, 5 June 2016. I think I was his last customer that day. I was surprised because if I remember correctly I arrived before noon. I think he leaves when he runs out of food. At the time, I thought maybe he was going to restock, but now I don't think that was the case. I think...
Hello all,
I am attaching a list of towns & albergues on the Frances which I have modified by highlighting (and adding) vegetarian friendly spots in YELLOW. If you have any recommendations or corrections, I' d greatly appreciate it. I'd love to end up with a complete list. Thanks!
Edit 12 Dec...
I bank with BBVA Compass. The only fee charged is a 1% international fee. There are no other charges when I use it at any major bank ATM machine in Europe. Before, when I used my USBank ATM card, I was charged 3-4% + Fees so we changed banks.
Oddly, there is a fee charged in the States or in...
My husband often sings a great song by Emmanuel called "Quiero dormir cansado". While walking, it popped into my head so I took the liberty of relyricing it. I sung this pretty much every day...
Quiero ir al escusado
para no aguantarme más
quiero orinar profundamente
Porque tomo mucha agua
Y...
Great stories! I think the message is that this big world isn’t so big after all! As I walk, I often break into song with refrains such as “Climb every mountain” or “What goes up must come down.” I think the refrain of this thread is, “It’s a small world after all”!
@mspath: Love the word...
I’ve been to both cities, but only as a tourist so I really don’t know what it would be like to live there. If I were to choose, I would go to Bilbao. It felt like a very health conscious, athletic city. I was there during the month of October and every day, I saw tons of people running...
Or freaky deaky experiences on the Camino… Please share yours! Here’s mine:
In September 2013, a friend of mine and I walked a portion of the Chemin du Puy in France. Our second night, we slept in Monistrol, sharing a room with three other people. One of the men sat with us at dinner and walked...
