I walked the CF in 2022. I reached La Virgen del Camino and found that the first hostal [HostalRestaurante Central] was full, but they could have told me that the albergue (which the sign said was open) was closed.
Is yours the Albergue de Peregrinos D. Antonino y Dña. Cinia?
If I'd asked this question on theanswerbank and Canuck had put his answer (post #9) there, I would have marked it as 'Best Answer'. In case you haven't bothered to look, it clears up the 'ronda/rotonda' question (not retonda). I just wish I knew my way around the interweb as well as some of you...
Thanks, all. I tried Streetview, but I couldn't get close enough to read the sign I found. I was probably looking at a different sign. But really, is it worth saving the space occupied by two letters? I know we abbreviate 'June' to 'Jun', but that is usually when all the months are shortened to...
What does the abbreviation "Rda" mean in Spanish? In context: "Calle la Rda, Villalcázar de Sirga". I have googled (of course), but I've obviously not been asking the right questions, as I've found no answer there.
Thanks
Just forget tea on the Camino. Or anywhere in Spain, for that matter. Of course, I have not asked for tea everywhere I've been in Spain. And I haven't even been to everywhere in Spain. I stopped asking for tea in Spain years ago after a few unpleasant experiences. The same goes for America and...
If it takes you more than about 10 seconds to satisfy your needs in the toilet, the light will go out. You need to move -- wave your arms -- to get the light to come back on.
I only came across one place in a tiny village where there was a notice to say that toilet paper must not be flushed. As far as I know (and I've been to Spain since 1968 maybe 50 times or more), you can use toilets in Spain just like any other first-world country. I have never been told not to...
I have had usually good meals on the Francés. Until I read this thread, I thought that Menú del Día and Menú Peregrino were different names for the same meal. I thought that on the Camino, it would be called Menú Peregrino, but off the Camino, it would be called MdD. I have learned something! I...
When you're in Gronze, choose the "Camino Francés" (or enter 'caminofrances' and 'gronze' as your search terms). You will get a page full of rectangles, each labelled as an "Etapa" (stage or step). You want the last five etapas "Desde Sarria". Each of Gronze's stages is a bit longer than you...
"I just don’t want to miss the historical points or the important places with history," -- it doesn't matter if you do. Make a list of what you think you missed and take it with you next time. There's always a "next time". The Camino Francés is addictive, at least in my experience, more...
Thanks, all. I've made a stencil out of stiff paper. The only clever modification is to stick a couple of pieces of stick-back plastic (!) to it before use, so you can lift it off without making a mess.
Thanks, everyone. We've obviously been looking at different internets. Many years ago, I printed one off and followed the instructions. It was terrible! Then I noticed that there was no sugar in the recipe!
All the recipes I've found for Santiago cake have it baked on a sweet pastry base. My memory may be at fault, but I don't remember Santiago cake that I had in Santiago, or on the way there, having a pastry base. Are there any cake-making authorities on the forum? Does authentic Santiago cake...
The photo was taken in October last year between Redecilla del Camino and Villafranca Montes de Oca. I don't have a smartphone, so I couldn't use the app that identifies plants.
