What a generous and touching idea, Lisa. The suggestions above are all good, and I can't offer any others except to wish that your kindness has a ripple effect... Blessings to you and your family, and may you have a peaceful and healing Camino.
My sense is that if you don't plan ahead, and instead let it flow when you get to whatever village/albergue on a given day, and depending on the weather and other factors (fatigue, line-ups, hunger - or not, etc), you'll be able to figure it out as you go along. Moreover, if you've planned ahead...
Or, while in Santiago, drop into the convent around the corner from the cathedral and order a fresh one to go! I tasted many versions (along the Camino and in SdC), and hands down my preference was the one the nuns baked! :D (they whip up loads of other goodies too!!)
.. if all else fails, and you can't recall those lengthier Spanish phrases, you might try this: Me duele. It worked wonders for me (with near-constant sacrum pain), especially when I couldn't muster up anything else.
By the way, I personally tend to ignore the words of anyone who make such...
One pilgrim told me that, if she wasn't quite sure about leaving her pack in a particular room, she'd attach a lightweight but study lock to the zippers. Take your valuables.. and, as for the rest, trust that the other pilgrims in your midst will look out for you and each other.
Hi KinkyOne,
Thanks for including links to these films...if only I could transport myself to Slovenia for a few days! Will they be available online later?
Please add links to your reviews if possible, would love to read more about these films.. they sound like gems, for Camino AND film addicts...
I can empathize because, although I don't remember at which albergue this happened, the lights went out while I was mid-shower... no switches within reach and waving did nada. I seem to remember that, after the initial shock wore off, and I realized that it was just one more blip on the path, I...
I got dinged by the little (bed-)buggers twice last fall on the Camino Frances. I used tea tree oil ('twas an essential in my pack), rather than resorting to permethrin or antibiotics... While I can't offer a solution for preventing their onslaught (a fact of life on the way), I do know that...
I remember how, even on the days where I didn't have enough soap / time / energy / will to do a batch of laundry, or when it rained and I knew stuff wouldn't dry in time, I would at least take the time to wash at least one pair of undies; even for the meditative ritual of it, and to know that...
I spent a few days in Muxia last month, including time spent in contemplation at the rocks surrounding the church.
A young Galician pilgrim from Muxia whom I'd met a few days before arriving in the village was the first person I contacted, asking how the villagers were coping with the fire -...
Hahaha!! I can't believe that I didn't think of adding Japanese (or is that Cantonese)-speeding-cyclo-maniac to my list of multi-legged creatures... ;)
This might only apply to North (& South?) Americans and/or Aussies, as we do not have to apply for visas. But...
On the one hand, I've been told umpteen times (and have checked consular sites online) that I am entitled to stay in a EU country / Schengen territory for up to 90 days... ONLY...
I second Choweth/Pilgrim on the Run's vote, Wordpress hosts my blog too! User-friendly, lots of options, and you can get a one set up (free or low annual fee) in just a couple of hours. I'm not planning to carry any hi-tech gadgets, so I'll only update my blog whenever I happen to find a...
Gracias, everyone, for your insightful and creative suggestions :). I don't have time to get a card from Schwab, or open an EU bank account, so I'll likely check with my bank this week re fees and default to using my ATM card.
Just checking in about these questions again - rules might have changed in three years...
Is it still best to use ATMs in Spain to withdraw euros? If so, are there also ATMs along the path (Camino Frances)?
Otherwise, if I want to change USD (and/or CDN) dollars, would I get a better exchange...
