I completely agree with Camino-David, gettting to Somport or Jaca is not difficult at all, there will be buses from all over Spain to Zaragoza and from there another bus to Jaca, several departures a day. Hard? not harder than parts of the French and certainly not as hard as the the Primitivo...
As I said yesterday to a pilgrim friend, also a member of this forum, when we yesterday had a coffee together, may be I don't believe in God but I do believe in Santiago. The Camino has completely changed my life.

You could say "por favor, me podrían servir el segundo plato/la carne/el pescado con ensalada en vez de patatas?" I don't know how easy that would be to memorize if you speak very litle Spanish, in that case you can always give them a nice smile and ask " es posible no patatas pero...
Annie, "déle" means "give (it)to him/her" and "déme" means "give (it) to me" in polite speech, someone you would call "usted".
The difference talking to a friend you call "tú" would be "dale un bolígrafo" and ""dame un paraguas".
