A friend who is starting their Camino in September asked me what the typical costs for a lunch along the way are currently. Since it’s been 4 years since my last time on The Way, I’m going to defer to this wonderful group. Seeing this thread, I’ll put the question out here:
Anyone have any...
We used Wordpress for our first Camino and Find Penguins for our second.
We liked them both! Find Penguins was fun and had the feature where a book could be published from the entries, although we never did create the book!
2019-...
Ha Ha! I did not scroll through all the replies to the initial post, obviously, before writing mine. Otherwise I would have noticed that Sarah Dhooma replied just a few minutes before I did, with her wonderful insights! Hopefull, Dixie will chime in too, beyond her Vlog which does address some...
Having just watched Sarah’s and Dixie’s recent Camino videos, both well known as through-hikers, there will be many of those in the Through Hike community who will want to experience the Camino.
Dixie’s recent experiences on the CF really shows how a through-hike expert compares the two...
There is some serendipity in following the markers, isn’t there?!
I recall on my first Camino, on my first day walking, late in the afternoon after leaving Ponferrada, we ended up on the alternate route through Valtuille de Arriba. It was a ghost town, or seemed that way, and we saw no one for a...

I beg to differ. When you walk or do a pilgrimage in another country you are a traveller. A traveller is different from a tourist. A tourist visits places. A traveller tries to experience those places. I think a traveller is interested in a deeper experience than a tourist might be. Pilgrims, by...
We needed to do some washing before we started walking in Ponferrada as we'd been in Spain for a week and I found a great place there, called the Lavadora https://flic.kr/p/HaeKAd and it was clean, high tech and cost €4 for a load for the 2 of us, and a few more € to dry. Soap included.
We also...
I like the tent peg idea for digging and burying human waste etc. Perhaps the famous (serious, despite the title) environmental book "How to Sh*t in the Woods" should be required reading for prospective peregrinos (in all seriousness!). There is an updated companion book "How to Sh*t Around the...
Ah...for every rule there seems to be an exception. My wife and I walked Ponferrada to SdC last June. Our best 3 days together were the climb up to O Cebreiro in the cold, wet rain, and the relative quiet of the Camino, as the wet weather seemed to make the route quieter in the cool and wet...
To add a little context, as we had booked with Caminoways.com, so all of our accommodation provided coffee (not sure how it was made, sometimes filter, occasionally French Press) with hot milk. Only a few did espresso café con leche, so we always stopped around 10-11 at the 2nd place we could...
WE made a habit of walking 5-10 km each morning before a coffee stop. Some of the hotels and inns we stayed in served us coffee. We noted that many bars, restaurants and albergues served grandé café con leché upon request. It's superb!
