Samsung translator app - real experience in Spain?

My phone is ancient so have been looking at options for a change, mainly an iPhone 15 or S24. Samsung's latest S24 set of phones have been heavily marketing their translator app. Has anyone been using the translator in Spain on their Caminos? If so, how have you found it? Marketing hype over...

    Other Pilgrimage routes ......

No problem. Everywhere is possible by minibus, and then day walks as you see fit. The great thing about Turkey, and the Lycian Way, is you can use the brilliant minibusses that go everywhere to travel about, as well as coaches and trains. If my shoulder injury doesn't clear up within 3 weeks...

    Other Pilgrimage routes ......

If you haven't found your way to the 'Other Pilgrimage Routes' section of the forum, it's a really interesting place to get some ideas and read some blogs about other non-Spainish routes you can walk, some of which may be easier to visit or be just different. I walked the Lycian Way in Turkey 4...

Donkeys can be a nightmare - but what about goats??

You could buy one at the start in Spain, do the Camino, then celebrate with the goat as Guest of Honour at a BBQ......

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

I generally love staying in albergues and it would be my first choice on a Camino; you get to enjoy the afternoon shower and snooze, the evening sun, wander and wind-down, often great food and wine, top company, making new friends, relaxing. I will miss that. I'll have my second jab soon but...

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

Some good points here. I'm not sure how the conversation went from asking stakeholders at all levels in Spain to have calm, measured conversations about the feasibility of providing access to camping facilities and promoting responsible camping to help while Covid is with us, to one on wild...

    Lightweight camping gear

Over the years, I've experienced very few bad weather days in Spain so that dome would do the job. I've tended to walk caminos with around 8 kilos - plenty enough in hot weather. It would be interesting to see how much a camino-ready rucksack would weigh with this tent plus the minimal ancillary...

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

"Wild camping" I've not mentioned wild camping. It's about asking stakeholders to at least discuss providing camping facilities and making allowances along the Ways in a Covid world, so that responsible not wild camping can happen. "by people who really need their income, in order to save us a...

    Lightweight camping gear

I'd be interested to know what the lightest dome you can find is. I had a really cheap dome tent after uni. It lasted over 20 years and was brilliant in all weathers. Totally agree about free-standing. Unless the weather was bad, I rarely needed to peg out the tent and very easy to set up on...

    Lightweight camping gear

The Lanshan tents get very good reviews, are cheap, use poles and are light. I agree with the freestanding comments for Spain's hard ground, but there's rarely only hard ground somewhere! Extra lines where the pegs go tied to rocks will do at a push. It could be worth a look for Spain. E.g.

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

I'm sure all of us are looking forward to staying in albergues again but is it reasonable to expect everyone to be comfortable with staying in albergues for the foreseeable or to expect everything to just carry on as before for a very long time to come? It's all about making adaptions to cope...

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

Totally agree. Those who are happy can stay in albergues and that's fine if they are comfortable with that. Some of us keen to explore safer options to doing Caminos again would benefit from updates on where the camping conversation started a year ago on both a macro level and a local one have...

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

"Pay your fees to the albergues for staying safe ...." That is the issue. Many simply do not envisage feeling safe sharing with strangers in an albergue for a long time to come. This is why camping along routes is something many want taken far more seriously than it appears to have been done...

So, what progress generally on allowing camping on Caminos .....

Any gentle, encouraging words or support from central government to regional governments? Any gentle, encouraging words or support to towns, villages or albergues from regional governments? Any towns, villages or albergues announced anything which might be considered 'progress' on the issue of...

    Lightweight Tent Recommendations

Just sold my Terra Nova Southern Cross 2 for 500 spondoolies. Bullet-proof it is, but didn't get any use to talk of, and it's fun to change tents :) So, with an eye on Camino-ing again perhaps next year, and realistically thinking that it's either hotels or camping rather than hostels, I've been...

Free camping with tent, is it possible? Also a question about nudist beaches

"Free camping with tent, is it possible? Also a question about nudist beaches" LOL. Now that's a headline for a thread you don't see very often :)

    Thinking about tents

When I walked the Pennine Way in the UK last year, carrying a tent was the only option if you didn't want to use taxis, walk miles out of your way or spend silly amounts at times for B&B. Even with a light tent, not carrying a stove, using a water filter, carrying a mat and better sleeping bag...

    Thinking about sleeping mats

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005I6R0WC/?tag=casaivar-21 A think a Thermarest Z Lite Sol is a good choice for a camino. It's only about 400g, 20mm thick so definitely comfy and better than a roll of foam by a long way, can be used as a seat, cut up a bit to fit you if you want to shave even more...
