Perhaps two dumb questions but I feel I must ask. #1. I am not Catholic or religious for that matter, is this fact an immediate disqualification? #2. My hubby and I would love to do this however we are both 72 years young. Does age make a difference?
We can mop floors, scrub toilets and I...
Absolutely correct! I am one of the unfortunate people who will be found by bed bugs! I got bitten at 2 different albergues, one AirbnB in Paris and let’s not forget the Marriott Hotel. Do check out the : Bedbugregistry.com.
I figure those little critters hitchhike on mochillas and just wait for me!
This is about a half hour walk from our home here in the Algarve. A town called Carvoeiro. There are literally miles and miles of these cliff walks here in the southern part of Portugal.
OK, let me add my two bits...I have an ex-brother in law who only speaks spanish. However that is not true. Whenever he is completely drunk he can oddly enough speak pretty good english. Has anybody given this a try for speaking spanish? I'm just saying....
Yeah, Davebugg but your "not serious" post became a fun thread to read. Always interesting to read differences of opinions. Now here's a business idea; purchase a small convoy of "pilgrim shuttles" strategically placed at the entrance of each urban area and shuttle pilgrims to the other side...
I am a firm believer that things always happen for a reason. You are right, the Camino has been there for a while now and will be there when Ian is happily recuperated! My first Camino was also in September, fabulous time to go! Get well fast Ian and Buen Camino to you both when you do go!
Ladies (and occasionally men) please stop leaving piles and piles of non-biodegradable tissues and TP. At least doggy poop disappears after a while. I love dogs and would love to get my daily "dog fix" while on the Camino. I have always had three large dogs at the same time and they love to go...
I love that you asked those questions! A couple of years ago when my hubby and I first walked there was a young man, kind of scary looking. Strong, ultra-buffed, tattoo all over the place. No judgements here just trying to paint a picture. He turned out to be the sweetest, kindest man I have...
I try to never miss a "pilgrim meal"! The quality of the meal can sometimes be questionable but the comradery around the table always makes up for the lack of vegetables. I too never saw the 2 tapas and a drink offered as a pilgrim meal.
OK, JabbaPapa, Tom, Irish Bernie et. al., you guys have all made my day! I haven't laughed so hard in a while. Camino Magic via the internet. Make mine a red wine and I'll happily walk with any of you!
Sorry guys...my opinion of course, nobody has to agree....leave the diet at home. I would rather treat my Camino as a Spiritual journey, not a Jenny Craig diet experience. Make mine a red wine and I will join you.
Hey!!! I thought only my hubby and I knew about the Camino "second breakfast" LOL! In the past we think we lost a little, never really bothered to weigh ourselves. It's called the Camino diet: Always eat a second breakfast, eat all the carbs you want, don't forget the daily dose of gelato, half...
Good question. But that being said, some people DO have a histamine reaction to a variety of different insect bites. Some reactions can be rather severe and should be prepared for. Me, I just scratch like mad for three days...Nasty little bites
I have been bit! But I would also never soak my clothes, sleeping bags etc in those chemicals. Mostly because few people say they work and they are harsh chemicals. Folks know your own bodies. Allergic reactions, talk to your doc before you hit the road carry necessary precautions, if the...
Absolutely correct! I got bitten at the Marriott Hotel, downtown San Diego and then again (years later) at a very upscale airbnb in Paris, and yes once on the camino. Follow the basic rules and guidelines, don't put your packs on the beds. If you have any critters hitching a ride with you, YOU...
Yes, yes, yes! The first three days were the hardest. Pains in parts of my body that I didn't know could hurt. Sliding in the mud, fighting with the icy rain, etc., etc. But meeting the young gal who had been abused, walking the Camino to help her deal. The old completely blind man walking with...
I agree! However, do holler out if you have an extra half an onion, brocoli, or whatever. Always seems to be appreciated. I think it's fun sharing a kitchen with fellow pelegrinos, an adventure to try to put together a meal with limited supplies. To me it's all part of the sometimes "strange"...
Yes!!! I am one of the unfortunate ones whom the bedbugs come looking for. Most people do NOT get bitten or even react if they are bitten. However, just because you don't get bitten doesn't mean those little critters won't hitch a ride with you to the next Albergue. That's how they spread so...
