:::chuckle:::There's a huge difference between:
working full time in an area of the US that is only car accessible ( and is 7 crime filled miles from my apartment) and traveling by train on weekends to work on the family farm;
and going on Camino.
Since I'm not going back on Camino until 2025...
Well, mileage can vary.
While some do try to blend in, blending in isn't recommended when walking on roads in the dawn or twilight, or camping where black bears are present, or being in the woods during hunting season.
You *want* the car to see you. You *want* the average black bear to...
Pretty sure the answer to question 2 is heck yeah. Last year, the going rate at private albergues on the Primitivo was a minimum 15 euro. I think that some claim that they can travel and eat under 40-50 euro/day, but my impression was that those people stayed only in municipals and ate only...
::: chuckle::: Silvermomma, I'd invite you to spend a little more time with yourself and your original question. Why did it bother you? What part of your self- image was being challenged by calling your personal experience and possible suffering a "vacation?" Figure that out, and you may find...
Perhaps a relevant note:
I do a lot of timed endurance walks.
The advertised distance is often 13.1 miles - approximately 21 km. But that measurement assumes that the competitor always takes the shortest distance at every point on the course and on every turn, without obstacles, water...
Kind of confused by your question, so bear with me. I ended up using Google Translate, much to my shame
If you're asking if ( deep breath):
the Roman Catholic Church sponsors events at various times ( particularly during Lent and the Easter season) in various locations around the world ( there...
Forum readers know how much I struggled on the Primitivo last year.
Then I looked at the eclipse map for Aug 12, 2026. The totality centerline looks like it goes within a km of Salas.
My family is now laughing hysterically at me contemplating whether I could do it again, but start...
I used FindPenguins app to create a daily blog w/ pictures and a few short videos, and vanity published them later. All from my Android, and most times, i didn't need WiFi.
Other vloggers use Relive, but I'm pretty sure that they needed WiFi
Out of curiosity, which route?
I primarily used Buen Camino on the Primitivo, since I have a distressing habit of getting lost while leaving towns. But when I ran into troubles finding places to stay, Wise Pilgrim was a good backup.
Too bad you don't eat eggs...for me, Spanish tortilla and café con leche were my second breakfast of choice. Occasionally my lunch of choice :).
Nom nom nom....
...and I'm ashamed that I forgot about my favorite breakfast option until I re read Annie's blog....pan con tomate!
Re mass in every place....there was a website ( in Spanish) that described where daily masses were, similar to the US website Masstimes.org ( which doesn't work in Spain). It's back on the Primitivo threads....
There * may* be a Mass in *every* village, but it's not every day in every...
Ah, you have a #3 now. Never seen it, didn't influence me to go on Camino, pretty much irrelevant to my life choices.
Now, Lord of the Rings / The Fellowship of the Ring, I saw 13 or so times in the year after it came out. It was a very painful year, and Gandalf spoke to me as he spoke to...
I personally didn't listen to anything other than the environment on either Camino, though I did sing to myself somewhat on one really bad day on the Primitivo. Also, my current phone doesn't support wired headphones.
My only suggestion/ request is that if you choose to listen, please don't...
I agree. I spent about 40 euro a day on my cheapest days. But I stayed in private albergues or donativos, shipped my bag, and didn't cook.
Kariann, if you don't want to walk by the sea and want to meet pilgrims, why * wouldn't * you want to end in Santiago? I got so much more out of my...
Plan shorter stages. 30km days and I don't get along.
Take fewer things (no backup anything except my highly refined glasses and my meds, no umbrella, disposable ponchos, no liquid soap/shampoo....YMMV).
No punishing expectations ( no "I should be able to's.. ")
More Spanish...
Buen Camino only disappointed me twice on the Primitivo... once when it did not list the Hotel at Embalse de Salime as a legit stopping point during their "Plan my Stages" function, and a second, more generally, when I was looking for accommodations in a range of destinations. I used Wise...
Mike, it's cool that you had that experience! Don't be too surprised at the responses you're getting.
I found that my personal growth was greater when I wasn't needed to fill the roles I expected to fill. To wit, I needed help more than i gave it in the early days, but I gave more than i...
