A podiatrist friend of mine suggested getting an orthotic called Super Feet which are available at REI (about $40). I was suffering from the beginning stages of Plantar Faciitis and he told me to get the Super Feet and not stand up unless they were in the shoes I was wearing. It took a few...

Back in 1965 my girlfriend, at age 25, had a surgery for ovarian cancer and the doctor, at the end of the procedure, told me she would be gone in about 8 months; the good news is that, after the horrible devastation and anxiety something like that always gives, she was treated at Stanford...
I am often bothered by lower back problems but found that, as I walked the Camino, the backpack seemed to help my lower back problem....maybe it kept me more erect or simply the spirit of the Camino made everything better. Quien sabe?
Margaret: Wonderful posting! I also remember what a butt kicking that trek over the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles was..I was also dragging. I had been as tired on other occasions but this was at least more beautiful and, as always with any aspect of the Camino, special.

I find it very pleasing to see that there are many people for whom the Camino isn't just an opportunity to get exercise. Throughout history it has had a religious meaning and a form for prayer and penitence; it still is for many of us. My companion on the Camino is not a particularly...
From my own experience on the Camino I have to say I liked having a companion with me so we could support each other were there an emergency of some kind but the reality is that, even though you have a companion, one is really alone with one's thoughts most of the time. We spent time chatting...
Several years ago I was in Spain and tried to use my ATM and couldn't because the pin number was more than four digits so I had to change it. With four digits it was fine. I am not sure if people at this time have larger pin numbers even here (in the U.S.) but that was back quite a few years.
As to sitting down with the pilgrims for dinner...I saw this at Orisson. Of course, there were no other places to eat near to there than what was provided at the albergue but the food was excellent and the spirit of comraderie among the hospitaleros and peregrinos was wonderful.
