    An "unofficial" Pilgrim Passport?

I saw someone stamping a whole stack of passports at one of those freestanding, self-service passport kiosks between Sarria and Santiago. It didn't dawn on me til later that he might have been a tour guide or some kind of group leader.

    An "unofficial" Pilgrim Passport?

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live, but if in the U.S., the American Pilgrims on the Camino is the recognized national confraternity. As such, APOC issues approved credentials on their website at https://americanpilgrims.org/request-a-credential/. Be sure to read all the instructions...

    What to wear in Winter

And that, my friends, is why it is so great to have @davebugg back on the forum. Thank you, Dave, for the detailed explanation, advice, and insight.

If you dug a tunnel through the planet from Santiago

Based on the number of swimmers responding to this thread, I guess that just proves that 2/3 (or perhaps a bit more) of the earth's surface is water.

If you dug a tunnel through the planet from Santiago

I'd also be all wet, David. I'd find myself 245km WSW of the nearest solid ground, Saint Paul Island, a tiny remnant of a volcanic crater in the middle of the Indian Ocean which Wikipedia tells me is all of 6.2 sq km in area. Actually, now that I think about it, I think may have talked to...

Thanks, @JennyH94. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place. If you ever get away for a winter getaway from Oz and Colorado is your destination, we'll be happy to take you on a high-altitude wildflower hike. The last week in July/first week in August are typically the peak. And yes, we...

Forum Moderator takes a break ...

While we had no Caminos planned this year, we did have a trip to Scotland scheduled for April of this year to walk the Great Glen Way. Obviously, that was an early victim to the pandemic. Living in Colorado, we are blessed with fine weather and are thus able to walk every day--usually for about...

On the Camino, on this date in May...

I don't remember what the main entree was, but I don't think it was bbq chicken. That's one of my favorites, so I'm sure I would remember that.

On the Camino, on this date in May...

I'm a day late getting my response posted, but on May 11, 2017, my wife and I left Barcelos on the Camino Portugués, and walked to Lugar do Corgo, where we spent the night at Casa Fernanda, one of everyone's favorite places on the Portuguese central route. From my notes: Day 5 - Barcelos to...

    John Grisham book

If you've already walked the Camino Francés, I recommend The Great Westward Walk: From the Front Door to the End of the Earth, by Antxon González Gabarain, with translation by Rebekah Scott. It's not a how-to book about packing lists and whether to wear boots or trail runners--it gets into the...

    Today's New Mexico Camino

@JillGat Thanks for posting about your local acequia trail walk. We have a similar trail in Denver that follows the High Line Canal, an irrigation ditch built in the early 1880s. It is one of Denver's most popular hiking trails, running a total of 71 miles from its origin at a diversion dam on...

    Solo walk journal

Look at the bright side...with no pilgrims occupying the beds in the closed albergues, maybe the bedbugs will starve to death during the shutdown 😄.

    creative virtual camino anyone?

For many, I would guess that walking out of Saint Jean Pied de Port through the Porte D'Espagne might be considered the starting point. But for me, this marker embedded in the pavement just a short way up the hill from the Porte D'Espagne was the symbolic beginning of my first Camino.

    Alternate versions of “The Way”

Be careful about buying versions published in different countries. The format may not be compatible with your player. Remember VHS vs Betamax?

    Poles, Poles, Poles...and Planes

I don't mean to say that checked luggage doesn't get lost on routine flights every day, but from my experience, the problem lies not simply with multiple fights or mixed airlines, but with changes to one's original itinerary; i.e., cancellations or delays which cause deviations from the original...
