    Free house-sitting

Will definitely look at that for our "next" Camino! We had house sitters for our first on the Frances, but couldn't find anyone for the second (Portuguese). We use an online house sitter site.

    Blogging from the Camino

I never could master Word Press. I've used Travelblog.org (formerly Travelpod) for 2 Caminos.

    The back of beyond

I'm originally from Pennsylvania and say, that someone is from "Podunk, Iowa" - no offense to Iowans (Iowinians?). My Texas husband would say "out in the sticks" or "Hicksville."

    Which Last 100 km?

Can you provide a link? I've looked at his site, but don't see it.

    Spanish foodies, or not

Ditto. Although we seldom go to a McDonald's in the US, we make a habit of checking out the McDonald's in foreign cities. The variations are always interesting (no salt on the fries in Lisbon). Even the McDonald's in San Francisco's Chinatown has some Chinese inspired differences. In Paris...

    "Couchsurfing" for pilgrims only

So did anything come of this? Was there a folder created for it?

    "Couchsurfing" for pilgrims only

I'm thinking you mean outside of camino walking. I think it's a great idea! Maybe Ivar could set up a place where folks could offer or look for a place. We have been couchsurfers and hosted, and any from this Forum would be welcome to stay at our country place in Central Texas. We will be...

    Spanish Vitaminas

Before our Camino I was taking 20+ supplements a day. I decided to go cold turkey and just took 2 with me - collagen for my knee and ashwagandha for high blood pressure. I figured all that walking was better for me than any supplement I could take.

    Washing merino clothes!

I took 2 Icebreaker shirts with me - one long sleeve and one short sleeve. I took advantage of washing machines and dryers vs. hand washing whenever I could. Oftentimes I had was not allowed to run the machines and had to hand over my clothes. I put my merinos (along with my Buff) in one of...

    Snow flakes on the Forum

21F tonight in Central Texas. Quite unusual for this early in the winter.

What to call it - El Camino or The Way?

On our Camino some non-English speakers would greet us with "Good Way" instead of Buen camino. I was confused at first!

    Hair

    Applied.

    Hair

I hear castor oil might work.

    Hair

Like this too. It's what I used on the Camino. Used it for clothes too.

Is there still snow in the Pyrenees in the begining of May?

We crossed on the Napoleon April 26 and 27th of this year - cold, foggy, windy, a little snow on the sides on the road. The week afterwards we heard there was a snow storm and the route was closed. Just play it by ear.

Your accommodation doesn't make you a pilgrim!

We stayed almost exclusively in private rooms, some hotels, but never experienced a run down hotel on the Camino. Nor did we often have to pay as much as $50 a night. Even so, $25 each for a private room with bath - not bad.

    Pilgrims beware of ear worms!

I tended to remember TV theme songs from my youth. Mr. Ed comes to mind ("A horse is a horse of course of course..." Especially when I'd see a horse.

At home now, and how crazy have I become?

It's been a little over a month since we've been home and unfortunately in Central Texas walking anywhere is brutal! Even in early morning. I miss it terribly - or do I just miss the simple uncomplicated routine? I'm certainly not running around getting lots of things done. Actually, quite...

    booking.com charging a cancellation fee

We made a booking for Palas de Rei - and then discovered that it was 6 km out of town and they were not willing to pick us up (yes, our fault for not paying more attention to the location - they had a very loose definition of "in town"). The refund policy is up to the lodging, not booking.com...
