    Needing a livestock refresher course

These horses on the Olvidado recently may not worry most people, but I’m very afraid of them! When it was obvious they were coming my way, I stepped off the path. I think they were curious but my very brave voice told them to go the other way. And they did!!

    Which route? Best walking surfaces

I loved the San Salvador / Primitivo combination! Good luck with your ‘research’ 😉

    Returning home to Australia

Once, returning to Sydney from a camino, I declared that I had been walking through farmland. They took my shoes at customs and gave them a very good clean!

Feeling empty after finishing my Camino.

I have arrived in Santiago 4 times. Each time the feeling was very different. As for the Cathedral, I wake up early the day after arrival and go to the Cathedral before the tourists have arrived and have a peaceful moment of reflection. I love being in the Cathedral when it is quiet and...

    Pack Protection

My fourth camino was when I first encountered bedbugs personally! And it wasn't on the camino but in my lovely pension in Madrid, my last night in Spain. There was absolutely no sign of them on the bed. When I turned the light on in the middle of the night and saw them, they were coming from...

Bedbug problems on the Camino Norte?

@dougfitz This did not appear to be a one off problem and every pilgrim concerned was met with indifference from the hospitalero. Having walked 4 caminos and being a forum member for many years, I would not have posted this information if I felt it was within the parameters of a camino bedbug...

Bedbug problems on the Camino Norte?

When I walked the Norte last year there were bedbugs in the muni in Comillas and many pilgrims were affected. I later met a pilgrim who had walked the Norte 3 times and he said each time the Comillas albergue had bedbugs! buen camino!

    After Camino

Hi Jamie, I felt just like you did after my first camino. Practising mindfulness really helped me. I think this was because that was one of the things I was missing about the camino - just being in the moment. Another thing that helped was finding my local pilgrim group here in Sydney. I go...

    tarta de santiago

Try again and make a whole Tarta de Santiago........ and then freeze your leftovers. I've frozen it in sections and it survives the process well! (I've also eaten it frozen and it's still delicious)

LIVE from the Camino Currently having paella in Zarautz

Michael, I learned of the Camino Lebaniego when I met a Spanish couple at the albergue in Serdio who were walking that way. They showed me their maps and guide. It did look beautiful. They said the stages were very short because of the steepness but there were albergues at every stop. If I'm...

LIVE from the Camino Currently having paella in Zarautz

@peregrina2000 Hi Laurie, Last October I walked from Castro Urdiales to Liendo via La Magdalena. It was a scenic, quiet stretch. The albergue in Liendo was very nice - great kitchen! I was glad I stayed there and the next morning I had a nice walk into Laredo for my second breakfast before...

LIVE from the Camino Currently having paella in Zarautz

We stayed in Zarautz an extra day while walking the Norte last September. The sunrise while we were leaving the next morning was beautiful! We took the coastal variant later on in the day into Deba - spectacular!!! But no bars once you make the turn, so pack food and water if you decide to walk...

Alan, I have only just had time to read all your posts from the beginning. Thank you for sharing, I am inspired! buen camino

Can anyone vouch for the credibility of express bouricot?

I used them once in 2011 and can vouch for the service I received - and I was the only passenger arriving in Biarritz that day! I would use them again without hesitation! buen camino

    ....or the European Peace Walk?

    My last post

I was just about to mention this - as the 'like' button was definitely not around in 2011 when I joined the forum. I do 'like' it though...! ;)

My Ultimate Camino - who would you invite?

So true @movinmaggie! When I walked the Frances in 2014, I never could have predicted the wonderful 5 individuals I met along the way and walked the final days with. When we arrived in Santiago we were a tight knit 'family' who had shared so much through walking.

    I was just thinking....

I remember the absolute excitement of arriving in SJPdP after years of dreaming, months of planning and hours of flying! So many things to learn in the following weeks!

    I made the mistake of...

Trecile It's not a mistake to tell your friend about your plans - and you did make it clear that you were doing it on your own. I also had someone say they'd like to come with me on my first camino and I was firm and clear from the first time she mentioned it. She never brought it up again...
