    Travelling alone on the Camino!

Quite possibly one of the dumbest things I have ever read... Single female currently walking lone with no issues having met many others like me. Just do it

    Bed bugs alert

I was lucky-ish as I've encountered them before and happened to be awake so I could react immediately so I only got a couple bites. In answer to your questions: 1- There is only one - la casa magica. It is otherwise highly recommended. I was there 3 nights ago. 2- I left a note on the bed as...

    Bed bugs alert

I was bit in villatuerta, room 4. I seem to be the only one that was but I saw several huge (some of the biggest i have seen) on the wall over my head which would indicate it has been an ongoing problem if they have had time to grow that much. I was in my treated sleep sack when I was bit.

    The 10% Rule

It's more likely that you are used to your odor and therefore no longer notice it. I encounter many travelers like this who sit in ignorant bliss while the people around them step further and further away to avoid the odor. I don't use antibacterial soaps/hand gels because they're bad for the...

    The 10% Rule

You're right, *sweat* doesn't stink. However, the bacteria on your body that flourishes on the sweat DOES. So yes, you will stink if you don't use deodorant - which is fine, as long as you don't inflict yourself on others. I once dated a guy who was a teacher and in the summer he wouldn't...

    The 10% Rule

Actually, I think the 10% rule is most important for newbies because they're the ones most likely to overpack a bunch of unneeded crap "just in case". Just look at some of the gear lists people post and you'll see what I'm talking about. You seem to keep hinting (no matter what you actually...

    The 10% Rule

They can, depending on how many such measures you take. I read a thread on an ultralight forum and a guy lowered his pack weight by over 1.5 lbs by removing tags, trimming straps and doing that kind of thing. So, the 1-2 oz you save by trimming your toothbrush may not make a huge difference...

    Buses and bed bugs

You can be exposed anywhere. That's why they're becoming such a problem in big cities, particularly where lots of people use mass transit. In those situations it's almost impossible to tell in advance if there will be a problem or not so you just have to roll the dice.

    Bringing euros to Spain

This will likely cost you more as the fee is generally a flat fee no matter what you take out so you'd be paying both a higher (I've personally not noticed this in my travels) and a lower fee rather than just one higher fee. Any time I hit any ATM I get out the most possible so the fee is a...

Question - Training for the Camino

I have not been able to train as much as I'd hoped but I'll use the camino itself to train. I'm not on a schedule, so I'll just walk as far as I can each day and then stop. I am used to walking though as I've not owned a car in over a decade so I'm not too worried about it.

    Bedbug Update

So you'll wait until every person sleeping in that room has arrived and then ask them all right?

    Worried about my husband...

Thanks. I've been working full-time from the road for years so I'm not too worried about it as I have it down. But it's a good reminder to others.

    Bedbug Update

    try a piece of rope.

    Bedbug Update

Agreed. You should never spray ANYTHING (including body sprays, bug sprays, deodorant, perfume, sunscreen, etc.) much less poison, in the sleeping areas.

    Worried about my husband...

I am also self-employed and can't not work for a month so I'm bringing technology with which will allow me to keep the money flowing. Perhaps this is an option for him?

Bed Bugs on the Norte ???????

I know plenty of knots from my sailing days, but my 'biner is an inch long and weighs less than an ounce and makes setting up my line so easy I'd rather just use that on one end rather than deal with knots....

Bed Bugs on the Norte ???????

The clothes line made out of small gauge climbing rope with a small 'biner attached to the end works great for this.

    My Moorish Whore came!

    Best thread title ever!

all in one hair/body/face/clothing cleansing bar

I once suggested to a friend (who does similar stuff) that she collect completed deodorant bottles from friends and clean/sterilize them and use those. Then you're recycling too. :) It might be an option to start. Or hit the dollar store and get a bunch of cheap DO and use those.

all in one hair/body/face/clothing cleansing bar

I would potentially be interested in this. I will be using the Lush brand solid products on my camino (shampoo, conditioner and lotion). You can check out their site for what they charge price-wise for various products. Personally I wouldn't use the same thing for everything as I think your...
