I thought about shipping the suitcase direct to Santiago. But I would be shipping a daily bag regardless (I prefer to carry only a minimal amount while I walk) so paying to ship two bags didn’t make sense.
I have heard about that and it is why I transferred a duffel bag last year, just to be safe. I am staying entirely in private accommodations so that shouldn’t be a problem for me. I saw suitcases in many places I stayed last year. Although it might be worth considering the duffel route again...
I transferred a duffel bag last year, but this year I will be transferring a suitcase because I will be in Europe for two additional weeks after my Camino as I have a business function afterwards that requires a completely separate wardrobe. I wonder if the fact that more and more people coming...
I stayed at both these locations and highly recommend them as well. Molino Galochas might have been my favorite stop on the Camino. I pulled a calf muscle on the way there and had to arrive by taxi and they really took care of me. They gave me ice for my leg and made me a lunch because I...
I found it easy to meet people at every stage of the Camino. In fact, while I started in Pamplona, the people I still keep in touch with I met much further along.
I walked in May and June last year, 40 days from Pamplona to Santiago. I stayed entirely in private accommodations and didn’t limit what or where I ate. My total cost was about 3800 Euros, or about 95 Euros per day. This total includes all my expenses (including a few pharmacy visits and...
I stayed at Casa Baztan last year and had a good experience. I had the pilgrim’s dinner there and had lunch across the street at Camino del Perdon and both were good.
I spent 4 nights in Astorga due to an injury and really enjoyed it. I am a huge Gaudi fan and the episcopal palace is among my favorites of his. There was more to see there than I was expecting.
I studied in León for a semester when I was in college so I really enjoyed my extra time there...
With regard to shaming, I transferred a bag every day and I didn’t get even one negative comment about it the whole way. Lots of people transport bags these days and only walk with a day bag so it is extremely common. Now, I carried a mostly empty 32L pack as my day bag so maybe most people...
I arrived in Santiago this morning (hooray!) but sadly arrived before the bagpiper did. I got in at about 9:15 and he came at about 10. But someone behind me had a recording of bagpipes he played so at least there was that.
I am resting in my room at Pension Fernandez as we speak, or should I say as we write. I am overlooking the river and enjoying the sound of that and the cow out there that moos occasionally. Very comfortable room, great shower, and she leaves some snacks for you plus a bottle of water in the...
The Camino is for everyone, not just those who approach it your way. I would never, ever put myself in a position to need to sleep outside, yet here I am walking the Camino right now. It is most definitely for me.
Incidentally, I am spending no time being fixated on my accommodations because...
Everyone must choose what is best for them given their own goals and motivations. One does not cease to be a pilgrim because they make choices others might not make. For some, walking every step is important; for others it is not. But one who walks the “whole thing” is not superior to or more...
I am currently in Najera. It hasn’t been crowded while walking each day but almost every place I have stayed has been full (I am staying in private rooms). But I have heard of others who stayed in albergues that were largely empty. I haven’t heard of anyone have any difficulty finding a place...
I am currently in an airport in the US on my way to Pamplona to start walking the Frances next Tuesday. I have booked all my accommodations in advance, some on Booking and some by email or WhatsApp. For those I booked via email or whatsapp, I have been getting messages from them confirming...
