Top Ten Musicians I want to listen to on the Camino Frances...

Yes, Randy Newman wrote the song that 3 Dog Night also recorded. Try YouTube for Randy's version, just him and his piano. Most of these artists are well past 60, or gone from this earth but that's what I like to listen to. I've got an iPod full - can't even weigh an ounce. Well worth the weight.

    Leave tomorrow- lost my credential

It sounds like you have nothing to worrry about. All my travels begin with minor jitters. This is yours. Then you are underway and things get better and all the small things you worried about are revealed as ... small things. Buen Camino

Top Ten Musicians I want to listen to on the Camino Frances...

You'd better believe I'll be listening to music! The first 10 songs I will listen to on my camino - haven't finalized the order yet. All remind me why I'm walking. Blue Sky - Allman Brothers, the studio version -this one puts me in high gear Four Strong Winds - Neil Young's version of the...

A family got out of a taxi...

Thanks for sharing. We know it's not all wine and roses, but you seem to have grabbed a handful of thorns. Your daughter has added to her her trove of stories to tell back home. I'm sure it's good to be past it. Better luck going forward.

No walking experience - have just decided to go - tomorrow. Help

Way to go! Hopefully you will assimilate the advice you receive here and adjust your plans as necessary, but I applaud your decision. I don't envy whatever troubles you have but envy your solution. It sounds like sheer determination will get you to your starting point. Your strength will...

iPhone or a compact digi camera

Back in the day, we would have been satisfied with a lot less than 8 mega pixels. I'd say to keep the weight and volume low, stick with the iPhone.

    Last min decisions

I would take the hat over the headband, but what little hair I have left is kept very short and I hate being cold. I never travel without a corkscrew. Nowhere. Never. I'd give the socks as mittens concept a try, but I don't think I'd be comfortable without use of my opposable thumbs.

    That movie

I would argue that it is possible to read the entire newspaper while commuting in stop and go traffic as I did every morning when I had a 55 mile commute to Silicon Valley. I draw the line, however, well before the woman who passed me on I-20 while eating a salad from her lap while talking on...

    That movie

Not to take this too far off topic, but for 7 years I was a Tennessee far exiled to Alabama. Now that I'm in Florida, I suppose I should be GatorVol but old habits die hard and with things in the SEC being what they were for the last 12 years, Tide fans are still more insufferable than the...

    That movie

I have watched The Way 4 times. I appreciate it as a movie, albeit not a great one but at least a decent one. I also appreciate it as my introduction to the camino. I was disappointed after my last viewing because so much of the last 200 km (all we will do next year) was left out. I started...

39 Tips for Hiking the Camino Frances

My headlamp has a red setting. I think many do. Hopefully this will be dim enough to prevent waking anyone.

39 Tips for Hiking the Camino Frances

I appreciate the information on serving sizes of beer, although I wouldn't make the mistake of ordering the smallest size twice. Now I won't do it once.

Loads of snow at O Cebreiro!

I think almost any state that starts with M would qualify: Maine, Michigan, Montana, Minnesota, but not Maryland or Missouri. I grew up in the hills of western Massachusetts where winter lasts 6 months ( or feels like it anyway).

Loads of snow at O Cebreiro!

The pictures are beautiful. But I am allergic to snow. Having grown up where 5 feet fall every winter, I got away as soon as I could. Currently 20 C outside my window. You are brave to tackle the Camino in this weather.

On my countdown .. a few things that are preying on my mind.

Losing 14Kg is certainly doable in the time you have left and would be of great benefit. About 4 years ago, I lost 60 lbs (over 10 months), threw away the knee braces and started taking 10 mile hikes with friends carrying 27 pounds on my back. Lose the 14, and you won't notice the 8 on your...
