Holy Year from Pamplona 2010, SJPP 2011, Lisbon 2012, Le Puy 2013, Vezelay (partial watch this space!) 2014; 2015 Toulouse-Puenta la Reina (Arles)
A month before I leave for Toulouse and the Camino Aragonés. My good old faithful boots felt funny, not right, worse still, not the time to buy new ones at all. My feet are flat, as broad as a floor tile, and there is a whole size number difference between the two, not only very difficult to find a good fit but there is also no time to break them in. Preparing for a climb training this morning, my home is in an urban valley under the Old City of Jerusalem so its up to Mount Zion, up to the beautiful mosques on the Temple mount, and up to the Mount of Olives, a sort of Passion Play in reverse if you will. Lacing my boots and yok, one breaks. A quick detour downtown for new laces and Hallelujah! My boots fit properly again, no slipslide, very comfortable, all is forgiven! So I pass this along, do consider replacing laces before the Camino and definitely do take a spare pair with you as you walk. Lifesaving, well feetsaving and I am so relieved.

Glad that you got sorted it out! But imo fresh laces just before the Camino should hold for the whole length of the way in Spain if you buy good quality ones. Buen Camino and say hello to the Camino Aragones from me, SY

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

The Ville Rose is a marvelous city. Rememeber, too, to present your respects to Saint James, at the Hôtel Dieu-Saint Jacques, after crossing the old bridge.
Bon chemin!

I once spent a couple frustrating hours in Pamplona looking for replacement laces. It seems that (like many things in Spain) they are only found in certain type of shops. I asked everywhere and most local people did not seem to know where to buy laces.
I did eventually find a shop, but it really was a problem.
I had broke the lace in Estella while walking back toward Pamplona against the flow of pilgrims.

I brought along about 30' of military type nylon para-cord (550 cord) with me on both caminos. It's great stuff. Can be used as bootlaces, laundry line, use to repair pack, etc. Lightweight, takes up no room and is inexpensive and I guarantee you will not break the stuff.

Shoe laces shopping tip for non-Europeans: They are sold here mainly in shoe shops, and/or any part of a department shop that sells shoes ;-) SY

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Thanks for the tip. I always take a length of para cord with me, but I never thought of it as replacement boot laces. Is there nothing that para cord won't do???? ;)

I'm weird ... I make my own laces with a lucet. I have yet to break a shoelace (famous last words).
