This is the reason I like to walk alone. I don’t want someone telling me what I should do. My husband planned on walking in May but COVID cancelled that. He wanted me to walk with him. I told him no because he needed to walk his own Camino. I know he was disappointed, but I got so much out of...
I stayed there in 2015. I always referred to it as the dungeon, because that’s what it felt like. A great way to start because it got better every day 😇
I couldn’t get a bed in Orisson, so I did basically that. I walked to Orisson, with no backpack, had lunch, and rode with an Orisson employee back to St. Jean. Next morning, one of the workers picked me up (I was on the road, waiting), had breakfast on the patio and finished my walk. I could...
Sorry, I didn’t see this until today. It was right over the bridge, the first right turn. Almost immediately. Pretty nondescript. 12 females in one room with two, full bathrooms. Other rooms had both male and female. No idea what they looked like. Dinner was great. I hope this isn’t too late...
I walked it the last week of September. Going over the mountains was beautiful. The sun was out and I was in heaven. I was in short sleeves the whole day. A few days later I saw a friend’s posting on Facebook. He was five days ahead of me and he had torrential rains. I didn’t even know he...
When I did my Camino in 2015, the municipal was full and they directed me down the street. I was disappointed, but it was one of my best places. I had a room with about 12 other females and we had two showers in the room. At breakfast everyone introduced themselves and I had a great time -...
Three year’s ago when I was walking alone, I usually stayed in private albergues, The rooms were smaller. I’d ask the person in charge if he/she would try to put women in first, but if they had no choice, it was ok. I think it worked every time. At first they acted like they thought I was crazy...
This is basically what I did. Only my host at SJPDP called Orisson and arranged for me to come back with them when they went to town to get the mail. Then he picked me up in the morning. I had my bags shipped because I was nervous. I'm glad I did because I sure did enjoy the mountains. Enjoy.
I took a train to Madrid. Flew out of Madrid, straight to Panama on Iberia. I had my poles attached to my backpack, and my backpack went on the plane with me. My poles were no problem, but my 6 oz. of sun screen was confiscated. I guess sunscreen is more dangerous.
I usually had a bottom bunk, so I would go back and sneak my shoes and poles and put them under the bunk.(I made sure the boots were clean). I could not have done the camino without either.
I didn't realize there was a dungeon and a penthouse. If you get there too late, you get the dungeon. I got the dungeon, but my friend let me use her shower in the penthouse. What a difference!
