i have used Jacotrans previously for two
Caminos from approximately Pamplona to Santiago. Never a problem. This year I used the WhatsApp to message Jacotrans. Again, everything went off like clockwork, and I had documentation just in case of a problem.
I am surprised no one has mentioned blisters in this context. The downhill segment throws your feet forward in your shoes, tending to produce in blisters on your toes. Training for the camino should include steep downhill segments in the same hiking boots that will be worn on the camino, and...
I am not certain, but I think the Madres Benedictinas have Adoration at the Monasterio de Santa Cruz in Sahagun. Mass there is quite inspirational. I suspect the Cathedral in Logrono has Adoration. Also, if you are in Logrono soon after Easter, the church of Santiago Real has a unique display of...
When we did it in 2015, the morning flight to Biarritz was so cheap we chanced it, thinking we could always take a train if we missed the flight. It worked out fine for us. You may wish to check out the Easy Jet flight schedule. They have one flight each day, but the flight is at a different...
From CDG, flying to Biarritz is easier and much quicker than the train. Rome2Rio says Air France has several flights daily, nonstop at 50-300 euros depending on the usual factors. From Biarritz airport to Bayonne train station, the taxi ride is short and inexpensive.
We stayed there a week ago. Fantastic luxury only slightly more expensive than a basic habiacion in a casa rural or one star hostel. They even have an electric shoe brush to get some of the dust off your boots.
The "Pilgrimage Road to Santiago" by David Gitliz et al describes each town through which the camino passes with an emphasis on the architecture and history. I was struck by the mention of the former Jewish presence in so many of the towns along the way. The book is available in electronic...
We did not stay at the El Cid so we can't comment on the quality of the lodgings, but please avoid the restaurant Meson del Cid nearby. We had a wonderful meal there 20 years ago so went again on our camino 2 years ago and were most disappointed. They were clearly resting on their laurels. We...
My wife and I did prebook our rooms for a July - Sept pilgrimage in 2015. The downside of doing so is that you are then forced to adhere to a schedule. The upside is that you don't have to worry about where you will be staying once you start the camino. If you really want to stay exclusively in...
Some of you have noted that attendance at funeral Mass is quite acceptable. My wife and I did not have that experience, but in Sahagun, a sizable town with three functioning churches, we were unable to find a Saturday evening vigil Mass. We encountered a priest and inquired. He invited us to...
During the planning stage of our first camino, we realized we would be in Pamplona for San Fermin, so we actually delayed my retirement for two weeks in order to avoid this. I can't imagine taking 2 girls there during the festa. I would strongly suggest changing the start date. If you can't...
