Hi MyWay2019,
To answer your questions...
1. There are buses, trains, and taxis all along the Camino Frances if you need to go motorized during any part of your Camino.
2. There are few, but not many albergues that are 10 km apart from each other on any of the Caminos.
3. 112 is the...
Hi Pixie,
Unfortunately, the Alsa website is notorious for acting up when there is a lot of traffic on it, so try it again when you have a chance, ideally during times when the Spanish are sleeping. I assume you're trying to buy a ticket to SJPdP from Pamplona, if you can't get a ticket...
Just to add some personal experiences to this conversation, to reduce the amount of confusion, getting a stamp every day does prove you are on the Camino, but it's not the end of the world nor will you be turned away from an albergue if you are missing days worth of stamps on your credencial...
You're welcome and the full name of the city of Santiago is Santiago de Compostela, and the Compostela is the name of the certificate you'll receive from the cathedral's office to prove you have completed your pilgrimage. Sarria is the town just outside of the 100 km mark, so you should start...
Howdy Future Pilgrim,
The stamping process only gets slightly complicated within 100 km's of Santiago de Compostela, as you need two stamps a day in that range to receive your Compostela. You do not need your credencial stamped every day to be accepted into the albergues. Though some pilgrims...
Howdy Pilgrim,
The Frances will be more rural but you will most likely run into snow storms as you cross mountains in March. You should have better weather on the Portuguese but your trek will be through more urban centers, flatter terrain, and more distance needing to be covered per day...
Howdy Pilgrim,
The Camino is very safe, in fact there are multiple posts on this forum right now discussing the best ways to travel with younger pilgrims. Please check them out.
Hola again Olivia,
Check the fine print on the ticket because EU regulations are more forgiving then American transportation systems. I and others I know have received refunds on Promotional Fare tickets even when they say no refunds.
So the bus station (near the citadel) is a 30 minute walk from the train station. It's a nice stroll through some parks, but there are taxis, local buses, and Uber if you need to get there sooner or want to save yourselves for the long walk ahead of you ;P The bus company's website says there...
You should also consider bringing a light sleeping bag. Northern Spain temperatures are very similar to the UK's that time of year, and many albergues are not well heated, but if it does warm up or if your load feels too heavy, you can always considering mailing some of your kit back.
Also...
So you know how they party and I hope you get into the thick of it, with or without alcohol. Those Easter processions can get pretty surreal, so I hope you get to see one. If we do run into each other, I promise it wasn't me you heard at night, sneaking in or out of the albergue because of...
I think you're making the right choice for your knee with sleeping at Orrison. Make the reservations as soon as they let you because they only have about 43 beds up there, and the bus station is a few minutes walk from Pamplona's old town. It's actually on the grounds of the old citadel if you...
Buen Camino Iriebabel!
Even if you find pilgrims that are willing to split a taxi, you should all consider taking the bus. The last time I bought a bus ticket, the bus was 22 Euro, and the last time I split a cab with 3 others, we still paid about 35 Euro each. You get to SJPPdP about 15-30...
Thank you. I had a rough idea of the travel time but I wanted to get confirmation. BTW, where did you get the travel time on Conda's website? I looked all over their Spanish and English sites but found nothing about the travel time.
A tip I want to add to anyone taking the bus from...
