I walked el Norte in October and saw less than 20 pilgrims the entire time. When I switched to Camino do Mar from Ribadeo, I only saw 2 pilgrims in Ribadeo then none afterward! Pilgrims were so rarely seen, that I turned goats´ and cows´ heads.
I just experienced the same on the Norte and do Mar . Continuos rain for 8 days, then strong wind for the last 3 days. Hoping and praying for everyone’s safety.
Hello and Welcome!
I usually research the accommodations through all available means (Google, Booking.com, etc.) at home and jot down names, phone numbers and price ranges. Booking.com does not list phone numbers but you can Google them. I research accommodations one town before and after as...
I love dogs and I don't doubt that walking the Camino together with a dog (although I don't even have one because my husband is allergic) would be lovely. However, I have seen a small mix-breed beagle walking the Camino in August, really hot. The little dog was doing his best to follow his...
Yes, I agree with C Clearly. I had 5 days of non-stop rain until I reached Ribadeo. Then, I escaped to Camino Ingles. The weather there was mild and mostly dry, lovely walk, too.
Hope you will make it safely. Don't feel too bad because my friend in Hawaii is expecting:
"Hawaii to see up to 12 inches of snow, while Denver faces historic absence of winter weather"
What a wonderful story! It cheered me up. I too remember many unexpected kind acts like this. Once I stayed at a hostal called El Convento de Foncebadon in Foncebadon. I got there around 4 pm buy my daughter who slept in did not show up until 8 pm and it was getting dark. Of course I was...
Hello,
Yes, I am so in love with Camino del Norte. I can never get enough of it. I find, and feel new things each time. Are we not married to the same people decades and still manage to find something new or find comforts within the familiarities!
I am dismayed to hear about such careless behaviors. As one of past pilgrims, I apologize. By the way Portomarin is one of my favorite city on CF. What a lovely place it is. I am envious that you live there. God bless you with good health.
I also booked a flight for the Camino del Norte to start in September, originally it was to be in April but had to change. I am hoping for the best but prepared to postpone again if Covid19 is still around. I too like to walk on my own pace and try to avoid popular stops. The point of my...
I had no stamp between Lavacolla and Santiago because I started so early and noone was open. I took a few photos as evidence but I was told that only stamps counted. I eventually got the certificate but I think it's best to get stamps.
Another suggestion I would like to make is that if you can arrive at SJPDP early enough start walking to Orisson (only 1 alburgue and reservation is a must). This will make the walk to Roncesvalles shorter by about 8 Kilometers and make it more manageable.
I am so sorry for what you have gone through
I understand how disappointing and discouraging it was for you as I had a similar experiences. Hope you will recover quickly. Norte is slow this time. In Muntibar, I was the only one in a 20-bed facility, and it was a bit scary.
Not that much and the weather has been good. I haven't been turrned away, yet. The other day I had the Muntibar facility all by myself. BTW, the Muntibar had a washer and dryer free of charge.
