I stayed there this past Oct 2023. It’s very nice, Laurence the owner very good, beautiful dormitory with privacy curtains, 4 bunk beds per room and gender designated WCs. However, Laurence gave a talk at dinner about the Camino Frances that irked me when he went on about how comercial and dirty...
It was incredible, 13 km from Villatuerta (31km total Pte la Reina to Luquin Tiago’s Albergue). Easy to find the start in Villatuerta and path well marked as it was the original Camino route before moving it through Estella. It’s a lot of climbing but I loved it. Highly recommend if you’re...
Thanks @Peregrinopaul. Did you enter the variant before Estella or at Irache? I was thinking to enter before Estella thus bypassing Estella (been there in 2017 and lots of pilgrims walking right now) and continue to Tiago’s Albergue but it’s a 30km+ day and I don’t know the elevation changes or...
Ok thanks as I calculated about 32 km. I phoned Tiago in Luquin who has the Albergue there and he says it’s marked and used but quiet. Otherwise taking it only from Irache the next day from Estella is too short.
Can anyone advise me on the Montejurra Variante between Puente la Reina / Estella / Los Arcos ? It starts 1/2 way to Estella and continues 1/2 way to Los Arcos. Can’t figure out distance from Pte La Reina to Luquin on the Variante Montejurra. Is it interesting? Is it worth it? Im not worried...
Great thank you. There are about 4 days on the Salvador and Camino Primitivo that are ascents to 1350, 1400, 1650m with similar descents. I agree it’s about speed. I’ll PM you for more. BTW loved skiing in Klosters.
What physical skill level is needed for the TMB (just did the Salvador + Primitivo last November)? Does one have to walk it as a group package or can it be planned privately
We are now at last 16 on the Primitivo in Lugo accumulated over the past few stages vs only 8 a few days ago. Its nice as no fighting for beds, it’s a quiet Camino but one is never alone.
I agree 100%. I walked Valcarlos in mid March, through mostly forest, challenging for constant ups and downs, over/under/ around big uprooted trees, across big spring streams, very little road walk given the day before I started a Korean pilgrim was killed walking the road. I too feel that the...
I likewise get up 1-2 times and whenever I book ahead (private or municipal) I do request with a bit of begging, a bottom bunk. I’ve been pretty lucky. Other times I’ve asked a young pilgrim to switch offering a modest dinner or a drink etc. only had a refusal once.
It’s ok to feel ticked off and I’m sure disappointed. I sympathize with you and understood your post. It’s disappointing to have something happen so early on this adventure. Perhaps if you’re near a larger city soon you can get a cheap reflective jacket at Decathalon. Please stay safe on the...
