    Hotels vs Albergues

For me, hotels made a great respite from the alburgue. They allowed me more freedom in my stopovers as I didn't have to be in bed by 10pm nor did I have to leave early in the morning. Also after many days of alburgue life among the masses it is a great comfort to have a room all to yourself, a...

    A Camino Race - Really

Not everything needs to be protested. Just think, if people had protested the pending crucifixion of Jesus it may have never happened. Had it never happened there would be no Camino de Santiago to walk. Be thankful for what you have today and give no thought for the morrow. Some wise person said...

    Bad Albergues

There is certainly nothing wrong with stating an opinion of an alburgue, be it good or bad. I've stayed in both. We all have. We don't need to keep our mouths shut if we experience inhuman conditions or inhumane treatment. It happens.

What portions can be skipped on CF (if necessary)?

Thirty eight days is plenty of time and even allows for rest days. If you do have to skip ahead it will be for physical reasons - sore parts - that will require the choice of rest or abandonment of the camino. This will be how you will determine which parts to "skip." Every part of the camino...

    CF in 26 days?

I am inclined to say learn to accomplish your goals without deadlines. I know that in this society we are driven by deliverables and deadlines. The camino is a place to put these things behind. Racing the camino, even if the race is against yourself, will not allow you to not experience the camino.

Hi I am 70 years old and I'm going to attempt my first Camino in April 2017

Bringing a guidebook on the Camino is akin to bringing a manual on how to go on a date with you on a date. If you need one, read it before you go and then leave it home. Rip out the important part - the maps - if you have to and take them. But even then you can just take pics of the maps on your...

    walking the camino

The correct shoes are the most important item. Unfortunately, finding the right shoe is a process of trial and error. First tips - Go with a well established brand. Examine the sole. Is it durable? Will it have enough grip in all kinds of terrain? Try them on. If *anything* bothers you about the...

Great confusion-Camino on a Pogo Stick

More important than any of that ... can you carry your pogo stick as onboard aircraft luggage or must you check it? Will Ryan Air take it away from you at the Compostela airport? If you cannot transport your pogo stick, are pogo sticks available at your Camino departure destination? Will Ivar...

Hi I am 70 years old and I'm going to attempt my first Camino in April 2017

What I found about the Camino is that you cannot plan this trip. In fact, past planning to get to your starting destination, planning is mostly to be avoided. Wear clothes amenable to the prevailing weather at the time of your trip. Bring whatever minimal toiletries you require (a bar of soap?)...

Has anyone completed the trail on inline skates?

The Camino is about life and the splendor of it. I met many on my walk who did it for various reasons and in various modes. I even met a woman with no legs doing the Camino. She did part of the walk in the electric wheelchair and part on prosthetic legs attached to her stumps. I met people who...
