Does anyone know whether anyone can place/spread ashes of deceased pilgrims here, and/or whether permission needs to be granted?
I am meeting up with several of our pilgrim group from 2014, with a portion of the ashes of one of our group who has since died -she loved Castrojeriz and environs...
I’ve always taken both a camera, and phone to take pictures/videos
both have advantages, and disadvantages…
Small camera similar to above, in a pouch on my rucksack waist belt …
easily accessible, to take pictures whenever, relies on easily purchased batteries, which are long lasting …. No...
I have my (4 years old info) which I can send you if you wish ( send a pm with email address)
There is lots of info on the Internet , more up to date
I took 6 days from Lourdes to SJPP... there weren’t many others ( 2 !) doing the same , but I think it’s more popular now !
I set off from Lourdes on 11th September 2014, along the Voie du Piemonte, also signed pretty well then ( and I think even better since )
To SJPP, and thence on to SdC ( arriving the end October)
The trail was such that my non waterproof walking trainers were perfect - cool in the heat, quickly...
From back in October 2014 , this couple and their donkey was with us for several days - I think they were from Holland ( although I don’t think the donkey walked that far ) - on the CF and into SdC ! We were woken by the donkey alarm on several days !!
This picture just as we were entering Cacabelos
You would be able to follow the 'Via Francigena' ( in reverse ) for a lot of your route...
This website contains lots of info on Albergues etc
http://www.viefrancigene.org
I used it last year whilst on the Via Francigena and stayed at lots of the locations you mention
Many ( but not all ) Albergues are closing for the winter by the end of October , and times can change due to the weather / numbers if pilgrims...
When I did it there were several already starting to get ready to close for the winter , although still plenty available... enjoy !!
I did Lourdes > SJPP > Santiago de compostela , last September / October ( 2014 )
I have an English route description, and can help any way you wish
Pm me with your email address, and I'll send what you need / wish
Joe
I did exactly this in September 14
The route is well waymarked , quiet beautiful
I have an English translation of the route, although I rarely needed it !
If you wish I can send to it to you
Send me a pm with your details, and I'll send to you,
I can't say when the 'best' time is, depends on what you want
What I can say is I did it this year , leaving Lourdes on 11th September, linking into the Camino France's on 17th, then to SdC for the 26th October..
The weather overall was ... Brilliant !
- hot at the beginning in France, cooler...
I didn't know what other way to get my message across...
I think lot's of us on the Camino learnt how to simply hug each other in love, pain, sorrow, and delight !!
Gestures that aren't easily done in everyday life....
Now that I ( and others ...) can, watch out !
A very special lesson, and hugs...
It
It was a present for last years Birthday...
This years present ? ...949 kms !!
Such enjoyment !!
The label says 'Mountain Life', I'll try to find out more
Joe
I've just returned home from doing the Camino from Lourdes to Santiago de Compostela, via SJPP, from 11th September to 26th October - what a wonderful experience
The people I met - fellow pilgrims, locals ( French & Spanish),hospiteleros,church communities,business owners...everyone, without...
