In recent days there have been several rescues by the bomberos with hypothermia. One person got stuck at the shelter and couldn’t go on.
what cold weather gear have you got? WTerproof boots, gloves, hat, down jacket? If you are not ready for cold, wind and wet, that’s hypothermia territory...
Walking September through end October, I had to buy a warmer fleece and fleece gloves in Burgos. The montes de Leon after astorga had hard frost every morning.
The first time I walked it in 2015, I’d already walked from St Jean. Tbh I dislike heights but just took it slowly and it was ok. It was dry at the time. There was the most beautiful smell of incense from the rock rose.
last year walking with stage 4 cancer I took a cab from El Acebo to...
I met a family traveling with three boys aged about 5-10, two big dogs and a donkey. They were camping in the grounds of albergues and paying to use their shower. It seemed a faff but they were Spanish. Unless you speak reasonable Spanish I think this is a no go. youd need to find places to...
I stayed at Roncevalles on the second night of my first Camino in 2015. Though the albergue is huge, it’s split up into little bays with modern beds, bathrooms etc. I felt really cared for by the fraternity running it. Thank you.

Between cacabelos and villafranca you can turn right towards Valtuille DAriba. Avoids main road walking..
going into Ponferrada there is an alternative taking you off the main road to the left.
one thing of note I rewalked Leon to O Cebreiro last summer. Most of the alternativos that used...
I hoping to start in Burgos in September. Also suspect it may be my last Camino (cancer). Loved reading this, when I was there last Burgos seemed so vibrant!
i have a snoring partner, so am well used to night noises. After years I find it mostly reassuring. So most nights on my first Camino I just went gently with it. Normal levels of noise are part of the albergue experience.
BUT
in Tosantos I slept on a mat about three inches from a large...
I think this whole thing is alarming. What did the "guides" think they were doing leaving SJPP at 11am with a group of un-proven walkers including visually impaired people. And to do so without waterproofs etc.... Ireland is a wet, cool country. You wouldn't go walking in the hills there...
I have recently been diagnosed with advanced cancer, which means my Camino perambulations have come to an abrupt end at least for now. I would like to walk as part of my recovery as its about the only exercise that works with my chemo. Inspired by Phil Volker, I want to use my step counter to...
