kirkie, if you check out Gareth's photos from Sunday above, I think you will see how these trees are right now :)
Super photos Gareth. Take care, be safe over there.
Hotel San Lorenzo is close to the city centre and is on the route to Finisterre. Double rooms have a full bathroom.

This is worth a try. Just finished the Primitivo recently and four young women in our 'wave' were stricken with awful blisters: all switched to sandals and all finished in Santiago on their schedule :)
Take care, be safe.

Good point Mike. I knew Bert (he lived not far from my own home) he was an intrepid walker and was well known in Ireland for his walking and writing. A lovely man who will be missed by many...
Phoenix,
Below is a link to another little book written about a camino undertaken by Bert Slader in 1985. It will give you an insight into caminos around the period you are researching: you will be surprised :) Sadly Bert passed away earlier this year...
I would go with the Ingles too. You can fly into Santiago from Dublin, take the airport bus directly to Santiago bus station and be in Ferrol that evening. There are lots of accommodation options in Ferrol and the walk from there to Santiago is excellent: lots of variety and not too difficult...
If you like markets, this is one not to miss: http://www.mercadodesanmiguel.es/en/the-market/ close to Plaza Mayor. I can recommend the Sandeman walking tour too, great way to see the city.

The photo which accompanies this article, shows two of the new mojones beside a building which is situated just as you come off the bridge from Portomarin: they are pointing to two alternative routes. These new majones have been placed where one of older aluminium signs was situated and which...
Muxia gets my vote too. Alburgue Bela Muxia is excellent: you can have a pilgrim dorm or the full works if you wish to :) The staff are super friendly and helpful. There is also a top class restaurant attached which provides superb seafood: perfect for a post camino splurge.

I too was reluctant to put my trusty walking stick (purchased in St Jean in 2012) in the hands of the airlines and actually left it twice in Santiago with a friend who owns Pension Mafer there and picked it up on my return to go walking. I had flown home from Santiago twice and had observed...
I met a German guy as I was leaving Leon early one morning in Sept 2012: he was walking back into the city and as I recall, he had a story about his card and an ATM machine. His story at that time, was that he had damaged it when he panicked while trying to retrieve it after it stuck partly in...
Excellent suggestion Pat (and super idea Gerard). My pal John and I had our evening meal here on the night before we left St Jean for Santiago in 2012: exactly 2 years to the day tomorrow :):) Thanks for bringing back that wonderful memory.
Take care, be safe.
