Hi - I am currently on the Via Podiensis and in a few weeks will be arriving in SJPP and then continuing on the Frances for a bit.
I have never been to SJPP before and am wondering if it is worth taking a rest day there or pushing on and taking a rest day in Pamplona.
Any one have any...
These.are great. I got them last year for the Norte and while I didn't come across many snorers I did find that when I did the noise blockers worked perfectly. I used the brown noise setting and it seemed to be just the right pitch to counter out snoring but not other things,.like alarms etc.
Also, you could walk to Oviedo and then decide there to continue on the Primitivo or walk back to the Norte (avoiding the Gijon - Aves) section. This will add a day but I found it worthwhile.
Might be too late for this, but I would start a stage or two before llanes. The section between La Franca and Llanes was some of my favorite, for sheer beauty, on the Norte. Note, this was on the alternate route that runs closer to the the coast than the official Camino route. I would encourage...
Having walked both, I still feel the Frances is a better experience. It was my first and it felt more pilgramey for me than the Norte did. I also found there were more milestones on the Frances to look forward to and keep me motivated when the walking got boring. There is also, of course, much...
One suggestion for your itinerary, for your second to last day, skip O Pedruzo and continue on to Lavacola. It will add about 10k to your day but it's fairly flat, easy walking.
This will leave you with about 90 min to Santiago on your last day and if you start early you will arrive before the...
When I walked the Frances in 2022 during a heat wave I booked the hotel that you walk past when you first arrive in town because they advertised air conditioning on Booking.com.
They do not have ac and my room was very stuffy when I checked in. Feeling a bit pissed off and deceived I walked...
I am pretty certain that most legitimate accomodations in Spain require your passport when you check in. So while you might be able to get by for a night or two w/o you will need a police report pretty quickly (both to hopefully get accommodation and for your embassy) and won't be able to finish...
I think Logrono, only if you're taking a rest day there. I just spent the night and found that I really didn't get to see anything or enjoy the tapas scene as I was so tired from walking and had to get up at 5am the next day to start walking (it was in July). By the time I was going to bed the...
Last year when I arrived I almost immediately lost the arrows - which was a bit disconcerting -- and had to consult my phone a few times. If you look lost someone will poont you in the right direction.
When I walked through the tunnel there was an accordion player which was a bit of a letdown lol
One thing I think is worth noting when reading overcrowding reports is that the posters who are walking generally have a very narrow view of how crowded it is and little knowledge of what it is like behind them. It could be that they started around the same time as a large group and haven't...
I found the walk into Acebo to be more challenging than the walk into Molinseca mainly because there were a lot more loose rocks that made it easier to roll an ankle (I was wearing trekking sandals). Obv I made it but it just took me a little longer as I had to focus on each step a bit more...
Looking back, the walk up to O Cebreiro was one of my best days on caminos. I just loved the sceneary and I didn't find the climb to be particularly difficult. I started at like 6 am from Las Herrerias so I was up and over pretty soon. I remember feeling joy as i walked up through the fog and...
I never had the urge to quit -- finishing the camino was a strong motivation for me. It was very important to me to finish. I suspect this is similar to many people, as evidenced by the "walking wounded" I would often see on the way. I definitely had days where I got sick of the meseta or was...
I was going to suggest what Dougfritz just did. When I walked this route in July I spent the night in the hotel in Zizur Mayor (there was only one; it had a bathtub and AC). The town is very much residential and there weren't many dining options. I walked to a nearby Burger King for dinner...
Hi - I am attaching photos of all my daily expenses for walking from Pamplona to Santiago. I mainly stayed in private hotels along the way. These expenses do not cover my gear purchases prior to arriving in Spain or the cost of my airfare to/from Spain. They do include all costs of transport...
