You won’t regret going to Albergue Bruno in Moratinos

I have stayed here twice. I agree with the comments above. If you visit Paddy, you might be a bit wobbly on your return to Bruno's.

    want solitude

High season on the Frances is probably not for you unless you can practise khilwat dar anjuman. A less travelled and still lengthy route was my first, starting Malaga on the Mozarabe, joining the VdlP at Merida and finishing on the Sanabres. You could continue to Fisterra if you wanted. Longer...

Historical Path - San Martin del Camino

I have walked both routes. I believe San Martin is the historic route, but it is not the most pleasant.

    Stamping process

Does anyone know if you can get a stamp at St James in Sydney? I asked this years ago and they didn't have one. You can light a candle there, which I like to do at the end of my journey. I have lit candles along the way whenever I can since my third Camino. A friend had asked me to light a...

    SJPDP-SDC in 32 days-is this realistic?

Start like an old man and finish like a much younger one. It is doable for me, can't say whether it is for you. I am 68 yo

    Winging it freedom

I have always winged it except for two occasions when I made a reservation. The first was on the Via Francigena in 2011 and the second on the CF - I don't remember the year, but I do remember making the reservation for Torres del Rio. I have never had a problem, but understand that things have...

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

Not sure whether carrying the pack is a big problem. I have had Plantar twice. The first time on my first Camino it developed in the last couple of weeks and fixed itself after I finished without treatment. I had walked from Malaga to Fisterra. The second time was a few years later when I was...

    Using Trekking Poles

I wish I had started using poles long before I did. I now use pacer poles and my knees are very thankful. Do learn to use poles correctly. Too many people still do not, though not as many as some years ago. If you do not use them correctly, they will not be beneficial.

    Hydration pack or water bottles?

I used a bladder once. The cap broke. Since then I have always used half-litre bottles. I usually carry four. I keep them inside my pack where the water remains cool for a surprisingly long time. I have only run out of water once: on the VF between Canterbury and Dover!!

Anyone know why Spanish people put water bottles outside their front door?

Water bottles on lawns here in Oz, though you don't see it as often as in the past.

    Flies. Just sayin…

Thanks. So the person "sayin" this actually knows that they are full of guano whilst pretending that they are not. And presumably expecting others to accept that they are not?

Should they make an alternate route after Portomarin

Are there reasons for a pilgrimage route being where it is? What are these reasons? Are these reasons important? If they are important, then does changing the route diminish the pilgrimage in some way? Of course, if this is not a pilgrimage, it doesn't matter. What do you want? How do you...

    Descent into Molinaseca

From Cruz de Ferro I now always take the road. I only stuck to the off-road route the first time I walked.

    Average daily expenses?

It is difficult to advise you without knowing what kind of camino you want to experience. Do you want a full-on penitential pilgrimage? Do you want something physically bearable, but not unbearable and how do you define this? Do you want something a bit better than physically bearable? Do you...

    Stuck in Bayonne

I agree with Barbara. And another thing ... chill!!

    Days from Leon to Santiago

I have walked this section of the Frances several times, the first when I was 54, the last when I was 64. Each time I did it in 10 days: Hospital de Orbigo; Rabanal: Ponferrada: Villafranca; O Cebreiro; Sarria; Portomarin; Palas de Rei; Arzua; SdC. Not sure that I could do it now!!

Tips for securing a bed at Albergue de La Faba during the busy September season on Camino Frances

I have stayed in the German albergue in La Faba twice. Both long ago, before the extensions/renovations were done. The atmosphere there is very special; perhaps due to the church on site. Stay there and eat at the vegetarian place further along. You could stay there too, if it is still there...

Newbie or Veteran? The Ratio of First-Time and Returning Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago

I have met repeat pilgrims on the Frances and Norte, but they were a minority.
