Hi if the Napoleon route is closed is the Valcarlos route an alternative, as in does the Valcarlos route close when the Napoleon route closes?
Hope to cross from SJPDP to Roncesvalles Sunday Next April 14th.
Any help appreciated.

Hi
Just to warn you all.
Today I was standing on the other side of melide with my wife applying sun screen when 2 peregrino ( both young girls) came along. They were quite agitated and shocked as an "old " man had just flashed at them in a very explicit way. As we were all on far side of town...
Hi,
Apologies in advance for this query as its very nearly an FAQ.
However I am arriving to Biarritz off ryanair at 1710 and i cannot seem to arrange transport to SJPDP.
I know that there is a bus to bayonne and then a train from there to SJPDP.
However my flight arrives at 1710 and the next...
Thanks Neil for a wonderful experience.
I am also conscious of your journey in making this important film.
I have a request!
I am a teacher in Ireland and I teach to second level (Post primary aged 12 to 17-18).
I would love to show them some of your film.
I often talk with them of my Camino...

The Irish Society of St James will issue a passport for you.
I fear it may be too late now to get one by post however but give them a call
and they will advise.
Buen Camino

Recently I have been thinking of an experience I had on my last visit to the Camino Frances.
I had walked from ST Jean to Burgos (having done Burgos to Santiago year before) and was leaving the Camino traveling to Madrid by bus.
On the morning I walked to take the bus I walked from the alburgue...
OK, its nearly midnight here in Dublin. I depart tomorrow. I have been before, but fr some reason I am bloody nervous. I have a poncho military (so heavier than usual) or a good jacket. The Poncho is so cool as it covers everyhting and I mean everything. All my kit queries are centered around...
Hey there, I think 40 days will be enough provided that you are reasonably fit and also have factored in some days rest and also that you may get injured and be forced to rest.
It is a good ide to consider that you may get an injury or become ill. Dont mean to be negative but if you plan for...
Hey SligoRover,
I used a Cicerone book as a guide. It was given to me as a gift by a previous pilgrim. While it is no entirely up to date, I found it quite compact and the index in the back clearly indicates the towns and villages disrtances and also the presence or absence of an alburgue.
It...
Irish Pilgrims Passport
The Irish credential is indeed 10 euro. The big advantage is that you get it before you leave. Also you can get a stamp on it Ireland at St James gate which is the start of the camino from Ireland.
Also the 10 euro helps the Irish association to exist. I started last...
Hi,
I got my credential from Ireland (being Irish and a Dub) and it did indeed generate some interest. One distint difference is that the irish one is alittle booklet wheras the ones I saw with other pilgrims folded out to a larger format. I got a small ziplock bag and kept it an my real...
I stayed in Virgen del Camino.
Its outside of Leon and I went there to get my way oot of Leon in the afternoon rather than early next morning.
It was brand new and I was there with only one other pilgrim.
I loved the small town and ate and slept very well.
It is not well known, I believe ...
HI all,
Surely the issue is not plastic bags but people.
Poeple make noise, thats a fact. If its not plastic bags its
snoring or generally being out of bed before you.
I used plastic bags as an emergency measure on my camino and was acutely concious of the noise to the point of embarassment...
Hi,
I completed the Camino Franece from Burgos to Santiago last sept.
During my walk I saw many pilgrims had use of a set of maps/guides that were issued by the spanish tourism organization.
Since returning home to Ireland I looked for and recieved the maps and guides and found them...
Hi,
I stayed in Virgen Del Camino in sept last (06). I decided I wanted to get out of Leon as it was too big and I was concerned with finding a route out in the early morning darkness so I moved on to Virgen.
I stayed in possibly the cleanest and nicest Alburgue of my camino.
As I walked up...
