BHP and family please receive my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband. Grateful that he was doing what he loved. May you receive comfort and support during the days ahead. May his soul rest in peace.
We love the meseta. Try not to skip San Bol. We too walked from Pamplona. I would save one day by taking a bus into Burgos instead of walking into it. Too much pavement walking. If the meseta gets too much for you around Mansilla de Las Mulas (who knows could be the heat) you could do one more...
If you start in St JPdP you will have enough time to take a rest day every week or to explore the bigger towns on the Camino Frances eg Pamplona, Logrono, Burgos etc etc by spending 2 days in each. You will also have enough time to spend a few days in Santiago and possibly a week in...
Early May: better to take a light sleeping bag if you want to be warm enough at night. Even if there are blankets available I'm not sure if I would want to use them. I took a sea to summit silk liner early June and was a bit cold at night during the first week or two but I slept in my long...
For the first two weeks of June I would suggest a very light down sleeping bag, about 450g. A liner may not keep you warm enough in Galicia during that time. Otherwise a silk liner and a long-sleeved T-shirt and leggings. Happy planning! Buen camino!
Thanks for this post. We love the meseta too. The camino is a great place for a retreat. A place for reflection and gaining new perspectives. Walking, thinking, praying. May you enjoy the next phase of your life. And if it includes retirement may it be blessed with peace and good health.
Hello Jess
Perhaps in Rabanal del Camino? You could stay at the albergue of the Confraternity if St James of London, Gaucelmo, and they would be able to advise you further. May your pilgrimage be truly blessed as you walk with Christ. May you find and experience what you are looking for. May you...
I bought a silver camino shell ring which I love. Also a camino drawstring bag and a few fridge magnets to remind me of this amazing experience. Best of all though were the people I met. Most on first name terms only with no contact details shared. But never to be forgotten.
Its a lovely tradition. I carried my small stone symbolizing the burden I was laying down and went down on my knees as I placed it at this cross. I said a prayer voicing my intention to be freed and unburdened of this specific challenge which only I had known about. It made my journey feel more...
Wonderful. We walked from Burgos in July and loved every minute. If you want peace and quiet try to stop at the "healing waters" of San Bol past Tardajos. Buen Camino!
