Did you take many photos and videos?

I took my phone, though not as good as a DSLR especially with a telephoto lens. My many many photos I have taken have brought myself and others much joy. As well there was no added weight or bulk to my pack plus I could do many more unintrusive photos since the sound was off as well.

Did you take many photos and videos?

I bought a smartphone with the best available camera in my price range. I love taking photos and looking at them. The photos weren’t always to the level that my bigger camera and lens would have had but the extra weight probably would have been negligible but the bulky camera would have...

Leaving mementos of loved ones in the CF

Excellent question as many people leave small items behind in memory. Everyone has a thought or opinion on this . I would say choose carefully as I walked through a grove of trees after bad weather and in one area lots of photos/poems were left. Sadly the paper items were torn , stained and...

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

If you do not wish to walk the Pyrenees you can always start in Roscenvalles

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

I would then suggest to start out in St. Jean Pied de Port and walk through the Pyrenees Mountains which is my vote for the most picturesque part of the Camino. Bonus is not as many people walk from there. It’s roughly 150 km to Viana and some high points you will go through are the Basque...

When do most pilgrims feel like quitting the Camino de Santiago?

Day 1, part way up the Pyrenees. I was tired, though I was use to walking but not as much with a 6 kg pack going up hill but I made a promise of no complaining or quitting for whatever reason until 1 week was completed. As it happened it took a week or so until my legs got into the Camino rhythm.

How Important Was It To You To Do "Full" CF ?

For myself to do the CdS from SJPDP to Santiago was the dream and it was realized. One reason was because I never conceived of doing it in stages and for a lesser reason the fact that I live on an Island in British Columbia, Canada the cost of the tickets to Europe start to add up as well as the...

Planning 40 Days on the Camino Frances

My favourite part of the Camino has always been the Pyrenees. I would take 2 days to go through them, stop in Roncenvalles for coffee and a short wander and push on from there

Camino awesome, Santiago not so much

I agree and though the bufemerro (sorry about the spelling) swung at 3 masses while we were in Santiago I could not go as I went into the Church first and just saw opulence and a Brother/Priest with his hand out wanting money if I wanted to take a photo from behind the Alter. I think for my self...

30 days - from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago - is it possible without stress?

Absolutely you can do it! I’m older and did it. For my thought starting from St. Jean Pied de Port adds something to your story and the Pyrenees are by far the most beautiful part of the Camino and would be a hole in your heart that you wish you would have done. Stress is something that you put...

Your advice on my itinerary for Camino Frances Sep 2022

If this is what you like and want then it is fantastic. In saying that we had figured out all of our stays and rests covering the 35 days we intended to be feet down. Reality was we stayed in 4 of them and would not change a thing. Let your feet and feelings be your guide

    Disappointed

I am so sorry this happened the injury and theft. Realistically what could the Albergue or even the Police do about a quick theft?Unfortunately no matter where you travel you have to keep your valuables with you including using a waterproof bag for your valuables in the shower or a trusted...

    Don’t underestimate cold in Pyrenees

Absolutely, the automatic thought is we are going to Spain so it’s warm but the reality is that we walk through the mountainous region of Northern Spain, it can be extremely cold. Worse than the cold is the head on wind, there is a reason why Spain has all those windmills

    “Cheating”

I heard more about so called cheating on forums before I started the Walk. I didn’t hear a lot about it along the way though other than when we were talking about people’s footwear state. As far as taking a day on a bus there was no negative talk as most realized the difficulty of having to make...

Any wild life safety concerns on the French Way??

When I went in the Spring all I saw was 1 deer in the distance, a dead boar in the bush and as for the “dangerous dogs” I met one crazy humping dog which was the day I learned bugger off dog is the same in English as Spanish.

    River route into Burgos (PDF)

This is great, I wish we had such a thing when we missed the turn and walked a very long hot boring walk through the industrial section of Burgos. One of the few times I actually wanted to stop walking was then. I wanted to upload the PDF directly, but no matter how small I compressed it, the...

Camino documentary on US PBS TV during 2018-2019

That's interesting, I know I had dreamt of doing the Camino de Santiago for a very long time, then I watched the Way and it very nearly turned me off of doing it. Thankfully I walked

Bucket List - What we must plan to not miss on the Way?

Everyone's Camino is somewhat different I had 3 fantasies for my Camino before I left Horseback riding in the Spanish Mountains so I did for 2 hours up to O Cebrio. Glorious, I am so glad that I did this even though I probably hadn't ridden a horse in 20 years and this was the first time for me...

Can anyone give me any advice on doing the Camino Frances with a two-year old.

I agree that this is not a parenting forum. The need for proper hydration for the child and parents is very necessary and as much as I only drank water while walking I do miss that fresh squeezed orange juice with my Gin, best Screwdrivers ever in Spain, what a treat.
